Three facts about Too Tall Jones:
1. I was at the NFL Draft when the Cowboys made him the first pick of the entire draft.
2. Too Tall never missed a game in his career to injuries
3. In the legendary Hail Mary game after the 1975 season in Minnesota, the Vikings still got the ball back and Too Tall Jones dominated, closing the door by two tremendous QB sacks on Fran Tarkenton

I met him once a very long time ago when I was a teenager. He was very nice. I looked like a munchkin next to him! And he had extremely large hands!!
Well, you know what they say about those with large hands…..they make great NFL defensive ends.

What a player.

Remember he quit for a year to pursue boxing? A reporter asked Newhouse what would happen if they got in the ring together. Newhouse said he would knock him out. Great stuff.

Edit…..whoops. Didn’t see your post above.

Happy birthday Too Tall. It was always weird to me he took off the 1979 season to try boxing but all is well that ends well.

there were giants on the earth in those days.
he was elvis in cleats to me.

I met the great Jethro Pugh as a kid and I had the same experience as his hand shake made my hand disappear. He was such a nice guy and the occasion was my pee wee football end of season banquet. Like Mel Renfro who I’ve met twice, Pugh was pure class. Those guys will forever be my heroes!
