Hard push for Payton. Romo's only hope

Romo's only hope was for the Cowboys to maintain a consistent running game and hope the team could build a solid defense. With him aging and becoming injury prone his best years are behind him as well as his best opportunity to win a championship. I see too many holes on the team and the coaching isn't close to where it needs to be for Romo to maintain his health and have the kind of success he and the team had in 2014. Jerry will live in regret once the Romo era is over that he didn't do more to help him by having a solid head coach especially if it leads to a number of losing seasons as he struggles to find his replacement.

Brees covered Payton's warts like Romo covered Garrett's. No thanks.

This is completely untrue, Payton is a great offensive mind and did just as much for Brees as Brees did for him. The problem with the Saints has always been the defense along with the declining talent on the offensive side of the ball. Bad drafts and cap hell took what could have been a dynasty to made it short-lived.

After winning "executive of the year" just last season, would Jerry be willing to take a step down for a coach who would want more control?

I don't see that happening.

Three things I'm pretty sure of:

1. Jerry Jones is not going to sell the team.
2. Jerry Jones is not going to hire a GM.
3. Jason Garrett will be the coach next year.

Understanding these three immutable truths, I can:

1. Change teams.
2. Remain a Cowboys fan yet become disinterested
3. Hope

Even though I understand the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results), I also recognize that though it's the faintest of possibilities and virtually impossible, lightning CAN strike twice.

So here's to hope - both in the draft in whom we pick and a new season and the possibility that we could discover some of that 92-93 magic. I'll prepare my lightning rod. ;)

Not true. I don't see him being who he is perceived to be without Brees.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've begun trending closer and closer to 2. This feeling of hopelessness really sucks.

Great to watch Arizona's formations and play designs last night. Lots of bunch of the receivers and really no overt pick plays either. Just bunch them up, run their routes and see the opposing defense get confused as to whom to cover. You can go long, deep or intermediate with that stuff. You can create mismatches and I don't think anybody would confuse Arians' offense for being undisciplined.

YR

I agree but for some reason it seems like our coaching staff doesn't know what an intermediate route is. Frustrating when our QB's are given 5-8 seconds to set up and not one receiver is within ten yards of the line of scrimmage. Would like to know what this teams YAC average is this year.

Makes no sense to pay the 25 mil left on Garrett's contract to only dish out another 30 million plus to bring in another coach. I don't see our FO spending nearly 50 million for the HC spot.

Jerry should of give Garrett an incentive laden Contract like he does some players, with no bonus!

Would be getting the Payton that won a superbowl or the payton that can barely field a team with more wins then we have now?

Would we be getting Payton who fielded a decent defense only when it was with bounty gate or would we be getting a payton that has had even worse defenses than ours the last few years?

I want to know which Payton we would be paying to bring in here.

Watching their offense function just brings to light how bland, uncreative, and plain crappy our offensive play design is. They're route combinations are designed to confuse defenders and make them second guess their coverage assignments, whereas ours are predicted on simply outrunning defenders in one on one coverage.

Yeah...the Cards are VERY GOOD.
