Hardy's ironic situation

On paper, I just don't see how the Panthers are that good. When I watch them, its crazy how well they play. Their Defense is legit that's for sure. Cam is having a great season. I never thought he had it in him to be this good. Olsen is a monster.

I have to say that I underestimated them all year. They are the real deal.

A year ago Ware left and we went on our best run in a decade while the SB contender he went to flamed out quickly after a great regular season.

Ultimately it is a year to year league.

If Cam was out as long as Tony this year Carolina wouldn't have been in the playoffs much less Super Bowl.
People can crow about defense all they want but the final 4 QBs were:
Palmer, Cam, Brady and Manning.

I don't think it's an either-or. It's both. You need an elite quarterback, and you need a great defense.

Yeah I dont think noodle arm, no spiral throwing, lack of touch, manning will be able to handle this defense. I thought Arizona had a good defense. Man they just blew those guys out!

Short is a 2nd rounder.
Charles Johnson 3rd round many moons ago
Ealy 2nd rounder
Loutelie(sp) 1st rounder
Allen - free agent specialist

See a trend here? Dallas definitely needs to invest on the DLine in this draft in high rounds.

So we are almost there.
Crawford - 3rd round
DLaw - 2nd round
Gregory - 2nd round
Hardy - free agent specialist

just missing that 1st rounder.....along with a couple of CB's and LB's

Forgettings Hardy's personal feelings on the situation for a moment, it's a testament to the front office and coaching staff of the Panthers that they've gone 15-1 and rolled through the playoffs so far missing their #1 defensive talent off of their roster from last season in Hardy AND their #1 offensive player ( Benjamin) besides Cam Newton on offense.

I am shocked how much that team has squeezed productivity from NFL rejects like Ted Ginn, Roman Harper, Jerricho Cotchery, etc.

Good-Great quarterbacks make average receivers better (I know Harper isn't a receiver). That's why I'm not all that upset about the production of T Williams and Cole Beasley. A healthy Romo makes those guys look like Edelman and Randall Cobb.

Hardy is no DWare or Jared Allen. Ware and Allen are team guys and are sack artists. Hardy is just Crazy and a bad team guy.
And yes we need one more Big behemoth to take hayden's spot.

sigh... Dallas has.
DLaw, Gregory, Hardy, Crawford all premium picks and/or big money free agent.
Arguing they need to continue to do that I buy.
Pretending they haven't is just incorrect.
Dallas has used consecutive 2nds (1 very high after trading up) and paid Hardy plus gave TC a long-term big money deaal.

They poo-poo 1T but they LOVE the other 3 spots.

I'm warming up to the idea of taking that behemoth at #4.

Huh?
What would like to see on paper....

Cam at QB, long-time start at RB, Pro Bowler at TE.
DL that is loaded with high R1 picks.
Best CB in football at the moment.
Best LB corps in football WHEN they are healthy.

That team was the one team who just flat outclassed us this year. It was never close.

10 Pro Bowlers and none of them rewarded for namesake only.

That is a loaded roster that build through the draft and grew up together with a 1 overall at QB who has grown into a stud.

looks good on paper to me LOL

If anything, what Carolina has done this season should even further lower Hardy's price tag because now the question must be asked, was it Hardy or was it the team/system. Carolina went on without missing a beat, meanwhile he greatly under performed here. I've said for a couple months now I don't want him back, but if his salary dips that low, I am ok with rolling the dice. I think we still need to address the position in FA and the draft though even if he stays.

When I look at Carolina and then project it to the draft, names that stick out to me are Bosa, Billings,Cravens. Guys with good athleticism but workman-like attitudes who love playing the game and hitting people, and go 100mph every play.

A fair amount of teams have won it with mediocre defenses. But yes those 2 are the ideal foundation and have been for 20 years.

Challenge is how to elevate QB play while building that elite defense. It is a very tough equation.
Cam was a big enough hit at QB this year that the offense around him hasn't mattered but that is VERY seldom the case.
Rodgers has been elite for a decade and Brady for even longer but they both more than occasionally come up short based on offensive supporting cast.

At the end of the game with 2:00 left it is still mostly about that guy that goes and takes a win..

Good coaching and defense!!!!

Coaching!!!!

Hardy didn't leave Carolina if memory serves me right, they left him.

I agree with what you're saying but Kuechly is and was last year the best player on that team. He is an animal

he leaves Carolina (7-8-1) to join the Cowboys (12-4) with everyone (me included) thinking the Cowboys were SB contenders. Then his former team goes 15-1 and are 2 weeks away from the super bowl.

Funny how things works out right ?

I have been surprised up till this point there hasn't been any reports of hardy "losing it."

This is not a romo injury or Murray traded thread so do not turn it into one. I give mods my blessing to ban those who try to.[/quote]

that is mighty nice of you

Peyton Manning has been anything but elite in this playoffs. I think, if anything, this year has shown that defense and a solid rushing attack are still the keys to a Super Bowl run. Yes, offensive teams get hot and win it all, but having a defense and solid running game to fall back on is where it all start. Denver's defense got them here, but their lack of a running game is what is going to get them killed in the Super Bowl.
