Has Dak been hiding how bad our offensive is?

In 2019 we ranked #1 in yards per game and #4 in points per game with a bruised Amari Cooper, still raw Micheal Gallup, and Randall Cobb who only started 6 games.

and before anyone says it was because we were down all the time we ranked #3 in points scored in the 1st quarter and #4 in points scored in the 2nd quarter.

Come 2020 for the first 4 games Dak started we ranked #2 in points per game and again #1 in yards per game.

Unfortunately, He gets hurt and we see Kellen Moore coach us to a slightly below average ranking of #16 in both points and yards.

Are we wasting our franchise quarterback’s prime and top 10 wideout with doo doo play callers?

Yes, Dak is boosting the offense but when you boost it to top 5 as he has the last 2 seasons he'd played then you likely have a lot of talent around you. The OL has fallen off the roof with injuries galore but the weapons right now are elite.

Dallas isn't the Chiefs but they are right up there with all mortal offenses in the NFL.

I'd argue the play-calling was fine to better than fine and all the interest in Kellen wasn't just home cooking in Boise.
But the drop off from top 5 offense to 16th best offense was directly related to the loss of 1 guy, Dak.
That's why you pay the QB. ALWAYS.

no. freak injuries happen in the nfl. kellen moore's our best coach. it is possible you were unaware of all the injuries to the o-line and their value to the team.

Partially yes. However, I think he's also been hiding how badly our defence is collapsing as well. His play and ability to come back before this season made our defence appear to be just good enough to win. Furthermore, this defence has progressed to get worse since the Rams loss in the 2018 season when CJ Anderson ran all over us. Since then, everyone knows the ground game is the kryptonite to our defence except for Jerry. One would've thought that, after that embarrassment, Jerry would have invested in a proper DT that offseason. He didn't. Last season, we tried, but the signings didn't pan out at all. When your offence is having to drive 80+ points because your defence simply can't get off the field on 3rd down, you're eventually going to run out of plays. And that makes the OC's job harder. Yes, we've got an excellent array of talent on offence. No question, but you can only drive 80+ yards so often before the opposing defence catches on to what you're doing. If we were to get the ball in shorter field positions more often, I think the rest of our offence would take care of itself. Imagine being able to start more consistently at the 50 rather than your own 25 (or worse because our KR seldom stays in the end zone and then proceeds to get clobbered before reaching the 25). The offence would be much better from it. Because of Dak's running ability as well as his ability to throw, he can make up for a lot of long yardage situations, especially with the talent here. However, as stated, you can only do that so much in a game before a defence catches on, and then you're likely settling for 3 at best when that happens.

    No..

We have had quality skill players around Dak for a couple of seasons now.

When we were bare in 2018 he was horrendous. Then Amari came on the scene and made the entire offense better.

The only reason Dak was performing so well early this season and we were still losing is because we were down a ton against defenses that sucked defending the pass and he had a massive amount of attempts.

Notice the Rams game how is numbers weren't stupid inflated. The situation and defense he was playing didn't allow for stupid inflated numbers that stat head geek only comprehends by reading a box score.

If you believe we had some super crazy offense because of stats then you are a football idiot.

the best offenses are balanced. hard to have a running game without an offensive line. ergo, all that was left was to throw. unfortunately, zeke's predilection for fumbling put us behind the eight ball several games in a row. hard to spot the other guy 21 points and still win. it is possible some didn't see that part early in the season.

Let me counter with this in the 2018 season. We did have issues stopping the run that season. However, it wasn't as pronounced as it became in the Rams playoff game that season. Since then, everyone saw how we struggle to stop the run. When other teams see that and they see you on the schedule, guess what they'll do. They'll run it on you and see if you can stop it. When it becomes obvious that you still haven't learned to stop the run, guess what happens more. Typically, at best, you're maybe able to hold the offense to 3 points. Then your offence has to take the field at likely the 25. You can over the course of the game have some success going 75-80 yards on most of your drives and get at least 3. However, typically, you only have so many plays in your playbook, and you'll eventually run out of plays before the defence catches on. Once you're stopped, you have to punt the ball away, resulting in the horrendous defence taking the field. I don't care if you have a rookie QB, that is NOT a recipe for success. Dak has done quite well actually considering that aspect. Want to fix the offence? Stop the run and get some takeaways on defence. Starting at the 50 will very much help your offence.

What @CATCH17 said, plus a decimated offensive line. And 2 games by DiNucci and Gilbert (who wasn't too bad).

No. He's actually displayed exactly how good or bad or Offense is. People, you need to stop acting like Dak is the difference maker in our Offense. It's just not true. The strength of our team is the OL. It has been for years. When the OL is strong, the Offense is good. When it's not, the Offense is bad. It's as straight forward as that.

Not only that, but this defence can't stop the run. It's hard enough to win with the defence the way that it is and in DIRE need of fixing. We couldn't even stop the run on the Giants on the first down play! Everyone knew the Giants were going to run that play. The only reason he didn't score was because the RB fumbled on his own without it being forced (which we for God knows why couldn't recover that gift). That is a prime example of why we struggle like we do. Then factoring in Zeke's fumbles makes an undaunting task of trying to win with a horrifically soft defence that much harder because the defence now has to contend with a short field. Would be helpful if our offence would get short fields more often. We might win more than 7 bloody games next year.

Seriously? Did you watch the games?

With the situation at QB and OL we should be impressed at how well they did. #16 in yards and points, that's pretty damn good considering the circumstances.

In 2018 he was a sophomore quarterback. That will be almost 4 seasons ago.

Josh Allen, Steve Young, Elway, Farve, and probably other Great QBs in their sophomore year threw more interceptions/turnovers than touchdowns not an indictment when other great QBs hadn’t even stepped on the field at that age (like Rodgers)

Even when we had Romo in 2014 (#7 ranked offense) with the greatest edition of our Cowboys O-line we never had an offense ranked as high as Dak’s 2016, 2019, and 2020 years

Are rookie Micheal Gallup and chubby Zeke that good?

How good did rodgers look with bucs in his face? How good did josh allen look with chiefs in his face. Or jackson with bills in his face? Importance of o-line cannot be overstated.

We were #16 because of Dak’s performance for 25% of the season (4 games)

if you take the first 4 games away we rank in the bottom 10 at #25

The trenches can’t be that important when we had the greatest o-line in 2015 and still went 4-12

Quarterbacks are far and wide the most importantly position.

Not only that, but how did Josh Allen look when his defence couldn't stop a nosebleed against KC. Now, I know the Chiefs are an excellent team. I live in KC. I understand that they're dynamic. However, to ask a young QB to win you a game when your defence can't do their jobs makes things even harder for him. Same with Rodgers. His defence failed him that game when they needed the defence the most. The trenches and defence are what make your team shine. Half of that is what Jerry has yet to grasp.

Well, having the likes of Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel isn't going to bring you a lot of success anyway. I agree that Dak or Romo that year would've made a world of difference in how that season played out.

True but Brandon Weeden was a first round talent picked higher than the likes of AAron Rodgers.

How long have you been a Cowboy Fan Bobby? I ask because of the statement you make above. That was not the best OL we've ever had IMO.
