Has The Fun Gone Out For Bill Parcells??

He has made comments several times that he will coach until it isn't fun anymore.

During our losses, he seems to be detached and doesn't become as engaged as he once was.

Has the fun drained out of this for him?

And if so, does that mean we are looking for the next coach this off-season?

I had not considered this until I saw a post by a Colt fan on another board asking about him.

Will going 6-2 the remainder of the way encourage him to stay and see what a full season of Third Down Tony can bring?

Can we find enough in the off-season to make this offensive line somethign special and not leaping to false starts because they are worried they can't make the block?

Can we find a solution to free safety which will cause Roy Williams to think before he kills the next receiver and gets a flag?

I think Bill has to answer these questions. Because why would he stick if this team can't get over the hump?

And do we want him to stick?

I dont think it's just the losing, it's HOW we're losing games. Going back to last season, this team seemingly invents ways to lose what should be wins. I think doing so time after time has to take its toll. We're just fans and it's devestating to us, so I cant imagine what it's like for a coach, particularly one his age.

From watching Parcells and Gibbs this season I've learned just how awfully hard it is to win in this league and how much of a toll it takes on people. Both of them are tremendous competitors and both of them know how little time they have left to accomplish what they set out to.

It's not like Parcells to get as emotional as he's gotten last week and this week. Parcells looked just about ready to cry after the game yesterday and the looks I've seen from Gibbs after the brutal losses this season weren't any better.

The way I see it both of the guys will check out after this season, with Gibbs probably being the one that's going to stick around in some function.

I still have hope, but I'm not really having fun watching these mental mistakes week in and week out...drives me nuts. :bang2:

LaTuna - I haven't heard one word about his retirement or quitting.

You'd think TrickBlue would have that in his recap.

I believe this was humor, ma'am.

Funny thing is, this might be his last year. The next eight games will tell this tale.

I suspect if Romo's maturation continues, along with our handsome cap space,
Bill could look at this as the break-out season next year.

Frankly, making the offensive line a cohesive group would go a long way in fixing this team.

What I mean is this. Right now we have a borderline offensive line. Some times they play well. But when they are facing a team that can control the line-of-scimmage, and put pressure on the quarterback, they struggle.

Not always, as we saw against the panthers.

But it occurs to me what is happening is the assignments are such that players feel they need to get that extra jump on the defender.

This equates to false starts.

For Bill to stay, the line would need to improve enough to stop this. You can hear his frustration in the presser recap.

Also getting a free safety would aid in our endeavors.

I think it all comes down to how he sees this team in regard to the rest of the league.

But something else also occurred to me after listening to Jimmy Johnson's tirade yesterday.

he still loves this game and with the four plus million jerry is willing to pay, he could make a comeback.

Nothing in stone here. Just an inkling, or wishful thinking.

But Jerry has never shied away from the tough signing.

And if this team was close, in terms of personnel.

Jimmy has never been one to not think in terms of his legacy.

His lips may say he isn't interested.

His anger yesterday seems to be sending a different message.

And taking this team to the championship after Parcells would be a feather in his cap.

JMO.

I can't see Tuna coaching next year unless we play lights out and win a couple of playoff games (wildcard + followup), losing a close one on the road (NFC title game).

that would tell me the team has turned a corner into being TOUGH and DISCIPLINED and a TEAM... not a collection of overpaid guys with a $200k QB hoping to salvage a lost season and a clueless owner pretending to be GM.

He and Gibbs look a notch above DEAD on the field... almost shell-shocked.

Both are well prepared and great coaches but they've entered the ANDY REID zone where they can't do it on gameday. (AR is among the worst gameday coaches ever with a good record). They seem to be like zombies when things go awry (most games really for both clubs who are 7-9 combined... pathetic) which is telling.

I don't think it was ever much "fun" for Parcells.

It is more like an all-consuming compulsive addiction.

The thing that worries me is that the game has changed so significantly over the years.

Not just free agency.
Not just the athleticism of the players.
Not just the situational substitutions and packages.

But the game itself. Significant rule changes pertaining to the passing game have changed the game fundamentally.

What used to be "Truths" are now far less applicable.

Think about this:

A team with a suspect defense AND a poor running game happens to be the only undefeated team in pro football today.

I find myself thinking (fearing, really) that Parcells has carefully assembled the kind of team that would have won a championship 12+ years ago, but not today.
