Hats off to him, man! Nobody (including myself) gave this guy an opportunity when he was drafted, but boy has a proved everybody wrong. He will be the reason BC is gone and big part of the three headed linebacking monster, next year. The dude should be in discussion for defensive rookie of the year.

Side note: he has been called to play all three linebacking positions and has done a damn good job.

No actually some of us were not upset with the selection of Hitchens.

heh, I'd not suck up to extremes and say nobody - many were defending the draft pick as others said it was way too soon. many simply scratch their head at times and let things play out. to date, I'd say hitchens is one hell of a steal in the draft.

Dunno about defensive rookie of the year (long way to go to beat C.J. Mosley or even Aaron Donald) but he has been very solid. Looking forward to seeing more of the kid.

The terrible situation of losing our other LB (full year or temp) is that he got some valuable playing time and we have seen him mature as a player.

At WORST he should be good depth in the future.

I didn't offer much of an opinion on his selection because I did not know anything about him other than he was a LB from a good LB-producing university. I'd say now that he was a great value in the 4th round!

Hitchens is playing well for a rookie but nowhere near as well as Durant was. Hopefully he shows consistency in the playoffs. I expect him to be the first LBer sub off the bench next year. We're gonna be stacked if healthy!

He's showing he can play. For a 4th round rookie, that's damn good.

If he continues to improve, he could be a starter.

I think the issue with Durant is he turns 30 years old next year. I didn't watch a lot of him in JAX and DET, but it appears that this was his best season as a pro and I just don't see him sustaining it as he gets older and comes off injury.

I've been very impressed with Hitchens. I figured him to be a ST guy that may develop into a serviceable starter. But instead he's turned into a Lance Briggs type of player that really plays the pass coverage well and is surprisingly good against the run. And the game doesn't seem too big for him.

true but then Durant was a vet player Hitchen is a rookie who should continue to learn and develop as a player. Durant rookie year he had 49 tackles, 1 sack 2 passes broken up and 1 int. For Hitchen he has been asked to play 3 all spots and in the process has accumulated 74 tackles, 4 pass break ups and an int and should only get better as a player

I thought he was a keeper, just didn't think he would have an impact this year. He does seem to have nose for the ball which is always nice thing to have in LBer.

I agree. I was concerned early on that because he was getting bounced around at LB that it would hurt him yet he has taken on the challenge be it MLB spot or WLB. Based on reports during the draft this guy has a great work ethic I think he will only get better.

I was wrong on him. I believe my comments were that our draft was a "A" if you substitute the Hitchins pick with Florida State's Telvin Smith. Hats off to whoever scouted Hitchens and to whoever decided to pull the trigger. Quality player should be a part of the defense for the next several years.

I'm trying to recall which expert claimed this was the worst possible pick.
