What's so stubborn about it? I am not guaranteeing he will be signed. Just said they are supposedly seriously considering it.

Read Belicheck's comments to the Boston press. He doesn't make any flat denials that they aren't interested. In fact quite the opposite. The other piece said he was not even in Boston. But they can send a scout to work him out anywhere. Have him run some drills and throw a few balls.

He may not end up in New England as a Patriot. I believe they are at least pursuing the idea based on the comments told to me.

No matter where he goes there will be backlash.

Just do not see the real gain they get. Two years ago they were setting records offensively- they should be top of the league or close to it this year. Why add all the baggage that Vick brings with him? They really will not gain that much. I think this is nothing but smoke and hot air.

Because for them it's not baggage. They've shown they can effectively control the media and control their players in every way. It's the same reason they saw fit to bring Randy Moss in: because they thought they could indoctrinate him into that Patriots culture.

Frankly Randy Moss is a lot different. He really brings a lot to an offense. VIck frankly does not come even close. And no matter what you claim there is baggage and a lot of it. Peta is not going to let it rest and others will chime in. If you think its all that different there you are dreaming. Especially when you consider what a liberal bastion Boston is. VIck is from the south, brings all that they hate about the south with him.

That's wrong on just about every level except the PETA thing. PETA won't let it go, but the Patriots are the best in the league at handling that kind of stuff. Their capacity for media control in unparalleled.

As for Vick's contribution to an offense; none of us have seen him play. I'd trust Belichick's evaluation of his skills over anyone else in the league though, if it came to that.

In any case, they haven't actually signed him yet so we don't know.

I personally do not either but it has to do with taking Tom Brady off the field for the "Wildcat."

I would never take a Brady or Peyton off the field to run a gimmick Offense.

I wouldn't take Romo off the field either.

I agree with you, but I don't know about the Wildcat being a "gimmick" offense.

If anything it's the purest form of offensive football out there. No dropbacks, no set pockets, no pre-designed routes, just run-or-handoff move-the-chains offense.

Besides, when you're acquiring a guy like Vick it's more about "does this guy give us a weapon" more than "I'd really like to run this particular offense"; though you're right in that that weapon could turn out to be the wildcat.

If you have your QB in place already, you could do some dangerous things with him in the lineup.

Recent SB wins provide some real cushion for an owner to try something, particularly with a team that has succeeded taking calculated risks. Could be a good move and I don't see a lot of downside.

I was just messing with you about it because I scrolled down to see what you said in response to the reports of Vick in VA for a bancrupcy hearing, not Foxborough.

Just a lil ribbing.

Nah, he's absolutely right. Happens from time to time. Not all of the time though.

I think the Pats are interested, but it's quite an interesting dilemma since the media sucks up to them so bad for the most part and Vick is a big no-no that the media is pretty much waiting to pounce on the team that takes him. The only team that can take him without much backlash is probably the Steelers (maybe the Packers).

It's funny and sad that if the Pats signed him the media backlash would happen when it really didn't fully happen during SpyGate, which embarrassed the league and questioned the league's credibility.
