Just as long as we keep continuity.

Wade at HC
Campo at DC
Sherman at OC

I will freaking puke my guts out if we open next year with this coaching lineup............Good Lord, what a disaster that would be.

I can tell you what it is.

Bill JOnes said on cbs 11 tonight that sources have told him that the plans are in the works and have been for some time for DAVE CAMPO to take over as Defensive coordinator.

and no, I am not joking. 5-11 here we come.

and jones also added that with garrett leaving everythign is up for grabs and everyone could be out.

Quit being such as buzz kill, Theebs. You're bumming me out.:p:

Nasty, nasty stuff about Campo there.

Not at all what I want to hear. I preferred Avery's source's take on what will happen.

Guys, stop it with all the Camp crap.

YOU ARE BRINGING US ALL DOWN!!!!!

dont blame us...blame bill jones for telling us and jerry for doing this...if in fact that is what is happening.

I have my fingers crossed that jerry slipped in the bathroom bumped his head on the sink discovered the flux capacitor and is going to clean out the rest of this staff and hire a competent head coach and let him hire his own guys and run the team his own way.

but I have already given up hope on that and I know this week is going to be about some BS west coast offense crap and old recycled coaches to run an offense that the resident loudmouth buffoon said he wanted to play in...

we are going to get clobbered in our division next year.

Yeah, I got that. I didn't say it was earth shattering news. I shared exactly what he said after me asking. I wish it was more. I hope it will be more. Right now he's having a little fun at my desperation.
Actually, the 2nd half of the quote was pretty intriguing -- it's a little vaguely worded but does seem to hint at bigger things to come, something bigger than just Campo as DC and Sherman as OC.

At least that's how I'm choosing to interpret it:D

No, you are completely wrong.

The Rooney rule allows a team to make an explicit contract with an assistant to take over when the HC retires. Jim Mora and Jim Caldwell both had such clauses in their deals.

That does not mean internal hires do not apply. For example, the Rams could not have hired Hasslet without interviewing a minority applicant since Hasslet did not have an explicit clause in his contract that gave him the position.

We could NOT name Campo tomorrow without violating the Rooney Rule.

Then if Morris is named HC in Tampa, they are in volation?

No they have interviewed a minority candidate. B/c the rule is to, you know, increase minority representation.

It was a smart-eleck question.

My thoughts are what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Except that before the rule the goose got pretty much all the jobs

I really don't think that the "Rooney Rule" has gotten anyone a job.

I really doubt that a GM was made to interview a minority and during that meeeting, the GM all of a sudden thought, "Wow, I need to hire this guy!". I think that GM's know which way they want to go and end up there anyway.

Not saying that the rule should or should not be abolished, just that I personally don't think that it has gotten anyone a job. Could be wrong though.

Do you REALLY think that a guy like Mike Tomlin would ever gotten an interview in Pitt without the rule in place? No rule and they promote internally with Grimm or Wisenhunt and don't even think to interview Tomlin.

One thing is clear. Before the rule was in place there were far fewer minority head coaches.

It is fair to argue whether the rule is still needed but it is unreasonable to act like the rule didn't impact hiring and didn't break the league out of what was a discriminatory cycle. That the league would agree to implement such a policy shows a clear admission that the HC pool needed to be expanded, b/c whatever teams were doing in their hiring kept leading to white dudes getting all the jobs.

The Rooney Rule is for exposure. Period.
It doesnt get anyone a job. It gets them a look. Which of course is better than not getting a look.

Thanks for that explanation AbeBeta - I didnt know that. Good stuff.

"It's not that surprising around here. He was not getting the job done and Wade had to be pulled over to that side of the ball. There's something in the air, but I can't discuss it yet."

Wish I had more. My apologies.

At this point, with Garrett leaving there are going to be staff changes anyway, so I really would not be surprised if there is a major coaching change. Garrett is going to take staff with him and there is going to be a new offense in place next year anyway, so if a Shanny is brough in I really would not be surprised.

I don't know about Tomlin. I thought he was on their radar anyway. I wish he was on our radar before.
