Heath running down Barkley

and yet, is it his fault for being who he is or the coaching staff that keeps him around. Instead of calling him trash, I'd like say that to the guys that are keeping him around.
I guess he’s the best we’ve got which isn’t very good. This staff has ignored the safety position for a long time.

Dude needs to be a backup. He’s a terrible starter

Yeah, he's average at best. He's rarely around the deep ball on passing plays. He's rarely even in the screen, within 5 yards. That means he doesn't have the ability (or is poorly coached), because he never can even guess the deep route and be all over it.

Sure, he ran down Barkley, but we need WAYYYY more out of him against Seattle, since Russell likes to throw deep. If Heath doesn't have a big game, I don't think the Cowboys defense will be all that effective against the pass, unless the entire Dee line (not just D Law) plays out of their minds. And they should have consistent success against that hobbled Seahawk line.

Man how can you fix your mouth to put #38 in the same sentence as Bill Bates?

You ok bro? Too much champagne?
Bates was a hard hitter.
Aside from that he was trash. Overrated, riding on Madden's "Bully Billy Bates."
His other claim to fame was his posturing "Kick Butt" T-shirts he marketed during a year he was injured and out.
Bates, forever the most overrated Cowboy.

Heath get's punked too much for my blood. Yes, every now and then, he'll make a play, but for all the "getting stiffed armed to the ground, missing important tackles, taking bad angles, running over own player, in wrong place at wrong time" he'll make a play or two every now and then.

Who are you, my mother?

You got a Roy Williams blow up doll? Jammies? Shrine?

Jesus.

I'll stick to my comment/belief. You don't like it......go pound sand.
Seriously bro, your claim that Heath is better than Roy... Hahaha, you can't seriously be serious.

Bates was pretty much a backup his entire career, while being a special teams demon. Bates was never distinguished by his play as a safety. He got his Pro Bowl nods due to his work as a gunner and because John Madden pimped him relentlessly. If Heath were in the role Bates had I think he would be at least as good as Bates was. The fact is he has a much bigger role than Bates ever had. That isn't Heath's fault. He competes and the team hasn't found someone better to replace him with. If they did maybe he would be in the Bates role. Heath has more than just speed. He can bring the lumber at times. He has a knack for making some big plays. It would be nice if he can make some this weekend.

Also, someone else mentioned it, but can anyone explain the physics of an angle? The shortest way between two points is a straight line. It is hard to understand how running a longer distance gives someone an advantage.

Roy was clueless after Woody left.

He got in the way more than he did any good.....

And just how much deep safety is heath playing? He's normally closer to the LOS as our SS. Woods is our FS covering the deep area of the field typically.

Heath's best position is single high FS, where he can keep the play in front of him and use his straight line speed to attack. The closer to the LOS he gets, the worse he gets in coverage. Just doesn't have lateral agility or fluidity to flip his hips.

I wanted him at FS this year. Last year, he was getting a good jump on a lot of balls. With the improved pass rush this year, I think he could have gotten us more picks.

Heath is the Tyrone Crawford of the safeties. He fills the weaker spot in the roster. It doesn't do him any favors.

Heres the issue with jeff heath

When you need a big game ending play that seals it heath is going to come through

But my goodness will he give up play after play and miss tackles

But i will say he has improved. In 2013 he wasnt fit to be on the practice squad for a nfl europe team

OK, good point.

But doesn't he play off the ball as a safety in base offensive sets on 1st down, and even in some Nickle packages he's back. So he's going to be back there often enough, and he needs to make some plays back there this game. They're going to test him, guaranteed....as it may be the TE on a deep seam or corner route.

He struggles covering tight ends 1 on 1, and isn't a great catcher but he's otherwise average to bove average. There are definitely worse.

Heath is good. We all want great. Wouldn't mind seeing some real competition back there in the off season. And I agree that I thought he was a free safety, but that's not what he's been doin.

Heath was exposed when he had to make more tackles in this game, which had not been the case when Smith and LVE were making so many tackles in past games. As long as Smith and LVE can make the tackles to prevent Heath from having to make tackles, they should be ok.

Heath is better at FS but Woods is that guy and he’s done a great job. I see Woods breaking out next year even more.

Yeah, I’m sure EVERYBODY noticed it. And, apparently it’s news to many around here that heath is considered our fastest defender. I was not surprised he caught him.
I’m not surprised after the Watson and Carr plays.
