Heath running down Barkley

yup, we must upgrade heath next year. A gimpy Earl Thomas is better than Heath. Instant upgrade. Heath hasn't looked good the last few games.
Teams prolly worked a little harder to get him in space.

Did anybody notice Jeff Heath run down Saquon Barkley from behind?

The announcer said Heath had an angle but it looked like a straight run-down in that last 5 to 10 yards.

Heath might not be great but he is by far a better Safety than Bill Bates on his best day, yet people loved Bates and hate Heath.

Bates didn't get his love from his safety play, he got it from his special teams and nickel LB play.

Earl Thomas might not ever return to form. Leg injury, he will be 30, new team/system, bad attitude. Heath is not as talented as him, but he is a few years younger and currently running in top form.

Heath is a great tackler as long as he doesn't have to move sideways to do it.

Honestly, I can't see how you guys don't see this. He simply has tight hips, which means he can't "break down" to make a tackle. If Heath can tackle the guy right after he gets the ball, he's great at tackling. If the ball carrier has time to make a move, Heath often misses, because he can't adjust.

It's not that he needs to learn, as some are saying, it's that he lacks the physical ability to do so. You don't learn lateral agility.
I'm just saying we need better from that position.

It was a broken bone.....not a torn ACL

Sure we could use an upgrade, but I think you're complaints are exaggerated. The Cowboys are among the best teams in the NFL defending against the deep pass, which obviously involves the safeties, and Heath is the 3rd leading tackler on the team behind LVE and Jaylon, and 3rd on the team in tackles for a loss. He's not flashy, but he has been solid.

Many people don't understand that which you'll see in the responses to this email.

Unfortunately, I think that has been blurred over the years, probably more by people that are too young to have a clear memory of when Bates played. Bates actually only started at safety in 3 years out of his 15 years as a player.

I was shocked at the extreme number of people who seem to have a belief that he was a long term starter.

Bill was a player w/ very limited talent who carved a career out of playing really hard. It's OK to love the guy for his high effort and great attitude, though, so I don't see the need to tear down anything about him.

I've never understood the hate Heath gets. I still think people remember his rookie year and still judging him with them thoughts in their head. He doesn't suck. Could we improve at that spot? Sure, but we can improve on about 9 positions and probably more. Lol

Heath is the GOAT. He is almost at mythical levels. The next time I see him kick a successful FG is when I begin the movement to make Jeff Heath the next Greek God. The God of Amazing. I wish I would have ordered my Heath jersey in time for tomorrow's game.

Barkley clowned a lot of dudes the season. There's a very valid reason why he was the #2 pick. Dude squats 500 like it ain't ****. Just because Heath couldn't handle him 1 on 1 doesn't mean he isn't worthy of playing safety. Barkley is just that good. Let's keep an eye on the seachicken safeties tomorrow night and see how many times Zeke punks them. Seattle fans will be saying the same **** about their safeties after the game I guarantee it...

Most people don't "really" watch the games. They just follow the ball.

If their Dad or somebody liked Bates, then they believed he was a great player.

I agree. He truly was a great special teams player, and a very good nickel LB, but he did not have the talent to be an every down player. Effort and intensity could only take him so far. I've actually seen some argue he should be in the Ring of Honor, but as great as he was in specific roles, a role player does not belong there.

I know, and he will most likely return to form. I am just saying, that there is a chance that we have seen the best of him.

I'd say there is a 100% chance we've seen the best of Earl Thomas. I don't see him becoming a better player from here. The question is can he return to that form and I don't think the injury has anything to do with it. He's older, he's had success and he looks like a selfish entitled veteran just looking to get paid.

I would literally give up a draft pick to keep him out of my locker room.

Yes, we know you hate like players like Heath or even Lee, Witten, Martin, Frederick, Beasley, Vander Esch, Romo etc.
Out of those I like Martin, Frederick, Vander Esch. and Witten in his prime. I also disliked Dez's play in his last year. I don't "hate" anyone personally. Just dislike their play on the field. You just can't separate the two because your hatred runs deep.
