Heath vs. NO was in wayyy over his head there is no questioning that. However, he was in position to tackle, break up passes, and was hustling non-stop. He went for the big hits and came up empty which is pretty much the same we've seen from Wilcox from time to time, but JJ seems to have a bit of a playmaking vibe to his game and much more upside.
I'm not saying Heath will ever be a starter or star in this league, but I've seen much worse from more highly touted players. Heath's game was very reminscent of Archuleta's vs Dallas a few years back. However I see courage in his game vs cowardice and I think with another camp he will be a fine back up SS in this league. It's too soon to give up on the kid for one horrific game.
TBH, I thought he showed the most heart of the Cowboys D for the full 60 mins. Let's not bury the kid's career after one poor showing. He's an UDFA from a small school and is going to struggle. But my eyes tell me he's got the raw materials to make a quality NFL safety with- good speed, seeks contact, non-stop hustle. When his play recognition improves I think you will see good results.
