Drew Henson rejoined the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the day after he was cut by the team when it got down to the 53-man roster limit.
Henson, who was signed by the Lions as quarterback insurance on Aug. 21, was one of eight players the Lions signed to their practice squad.
It will mark his second stint as a member of an NFL practice squad. He filled a similar role for the Minnesota Vikings in 2006, after he was cut by the Dallas Cowboys in training camp.
Henson, 28, may practice with the team but will not be suiting up for games unless he is added to the 53-man roster later in the season.
He is one of four quarterbacks on the Lions roster, behind Jon Kitna, Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton, who currently is out with a thumb injury.
The Lions also released linebacker Anthony Cannon and fullback-tight end Sean McHugh Sunday, replacing them with Ryan Nece, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, and running back Marcus Thomas, whom the Lions claimed off waivers from San Diego.
Nece, the son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott, spent the last six seasons in Tampa and played for Lions defensive coordinator Joe Barry when he was in Tampa.
Thomas is a rookie who gained 1,166 yards rushing last year as a senior at Texas-El Paso.
