Drew Henson rejoined the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the day after he was cut by the team when it got down to the 53-man roster limit.

Henson, who was signed by the Lions as quarterback insurance on Aug. 21, was one of eight players the Lions signed to their practice squad.

It will mark his second stint as a member of an NFL practice squad. He filled a similar role for the Minnesota Vikings in 2006, after he was cut by the Dallas Cowboys in training camp.

Henson, 28, may practice with the team but will not be suiting up for games unless he is added to the 53-man roster later in the season.

He is one of four quarterbacks on the Lions roster, behind Jon Kitna, Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton, who currently is out with a thumb injury.

The Lions also released linebacker Anthony Cannon and fullback-tight end Sean McHugh Sunday, replacing them with Ryan Nece, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, and running back Marcus Thomas, whom the Lions claimed off waivers from San Diego.

Nece, the son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott, spent the last six seasons in Tampa and played for Lions defensive coordinator Joe Barry when he was in Tampa.

Thomas is a rookie who gained 1,166 yards rushing last year as a senior at Texas-El Paso.

Unless Henson has changed his machanics, he will never succeed in NFL. Aikman pointed it out, I think, when he played with Vikings last year in Pre-season.

The problem seems to be, that he has low release point, which makes the ball sail on him and thats why his accuracy is way off on intermediate throws, specifically they go high on intermediate throws.

It doesn't seem to be an issue of decision making or pocket presence etc. but simple machanics. He just destroyed his machanics by going to Baseball. In College, he had great machanics.

yes seems like it, guess he keeps getting released before he accrues actual years of experience.

i give him credit for not quitting.

I laugh every time there's a Henson post. I remember all those Zoners who had bon .. you know what I mean ... for Henson. It was clear to just about everyone else that Romo was the real deal and Henson was not.

That is so untrue - The Romo bandwagon back in the day was a big minority. Majority were all over Henson a nd pedigre - and scoffed at Romo's lack of arm strength.

But interesting to see where there careers went years later.

You actually right about that Nors. There were few on the Romo-wagon.

It was hard to not hop on that Henson band Waggon.

Especially if you saw him throwing passes to David Terrell on the all bust team at Michigan.

I'd wish Henson good luck (as I have in the past) but he will need much more than that.

I've never been on that waggon.

No ill will towards him or anything. I just dont think he has what it takes to play with the big boys.

I never knew that Ryan Nece was the son of Ronnie Lott. Of course, I never new that Ryan Nece existed either:p:

Catch17

He was a good college receiver, with vastly limited speed, strength and ability. Kid works hard and wants to do it. He is a dog and when they put him in with the Wolves he can't do it.

I knew that the second the coach after watching Gunner Amendola get ragged dolled, abused and thrown out of bounds tryin to release downfield say, don't worry kid it's not your fault.

You were not one of those correct? If I recall you thought neither were going to be good and wanted to draft Brady Quinn

But I thought they only let you do that until you were close to qualifying for the full NFL pension...

i still have high hopes for henson. He was thrown under the bus in dallas, and its set him back. I think he can revive his career in Detroit. They have the receivers, and might have the running game now. A few injuries, time fixing his throwing mechanics... and he might have a spot there.
