Here Is Why We Cant Play Cover-two Bears Style

There are times when the Bears' defense calls for their "Mike" linebacker to turn his back on the quarterback and run with a wide receiver. It happens so often that it is no longer astonishing. And yet, when you watch the slow-motion replays of Urlacher operating in Lovie Smith's Tony Dungy-influenced Tampa Cover 2 defense, it reveals just how versatile he is.

BRADIE WOULD GET TORCHED AS HE DID THIS YEAR....burnett would have to play MLB in the 4-3 if we went cover-two...he is the only one who can cover.

No way dude.

Bradie James is a beast.

He is like a Urlacher/Ray Lewis combination.

What's the point of this post?

Is it to Bash James? or to somehow say that Rivera would be a bad choice for the Cowboys? Or is it to just say you don't like the Cover 2??

Bradie James won't be that big of a liability in cover 2 as much as Roy Williams and Pat Watkins would be. If you can't have good cover safeties, you can't have a cover 2.

Rivera has said he knows the 4-3, 3-4 and the 46 so if he's hired it doesn't mean we go to the cover two.

yep, of course he would need to add 10 lbs. at least, but keep blockers off of him, and he would be perfect as the Mike in a Cover-2

yes i think that bobby or burnett get that job...no way bradie does...if bradie wants to make it he will have to play outside...and learn how to do it up to par with what rivera would want...if burnett is the MLB then its akin and carp on the outside...bradie is a high paid backup...before he gets cut that is...

It is amazing some of you aren't coaching candidates with as much knowledge you possess over the men who have actually interviewed.... (sarcasm)

Exactly, I don't know why everyone keeps assuming the Cover-2 is Rivera's scheme. He's coached it only as long as he's been with Lovie. Prior to that he was linebackers coach with Jim Johnson.

Rivera's seen a number of schemes.

He's been in Buddy Ryan's 46. He's studied under Jim Johnson (who's very aggressive). He's studied under Lovie Smith.

I'd say he's seen a lot of different defenses. Who knows, maybe he has his own cutting edge scheme he's waiting to unleash?

One possible plus about getting Rivera....maybe...just maybe...we'd be able to sign Briggs.

We don't have the speed to play cover 2.

But the other posters are right - he won't force us to. He studied under Buddy Ryan/Jim Johnson.

Attacking defense ftw.

Switching from the 3-4 to a cover 2 is about the worst possible scenario. It requires different types of players at virtually every position.

You've gotta understand, STS gets his football knowledge directly from God during one-on-one, sit-down discussions with the Lord. Just ask him.
