We've gone without a true NT for a long time since we've played one gap for years. They are using Hayden as a 1 and a 0. I think Crawford can play the 1, 3, and 5 although he's not a true 1 tech. McClain can play the 0, 1 and 3. So we have some versatility. But in the end it's not just who can play it but play it well. I don't see a very good answer to the latter....yet.

I think the team likes Hayden as a stop-gap better than you do. And then, yes, they're looking at McClain as a likely upgrade to that place holder. I don't like it much, either, but the 1-tech options are still a lot better than the almost-nothing we're trotting out at rush end right now.

Yes, I think a coach or coaches likes Hayden better than I do. This is where a good front office will have the scouts make the determination on who they keep, not the coaches. Coaches are short term focused and sometimes let player relationships interfere with making good long term judgements. Obviously, the coaches should be consulted, but the final decision should be up to Will McClay who might not have the same opinion of Hayden as the coaches.

The Texas Rangers GM got rid of Michael Young because the Manager wouldn't play the young guys while Young was on the team.

And that might very well be the move. Cut Clutts, sign him after week one to a non-guaranteed contract.

Yes, it seems highly unlikely that anybody would sign him. There are several veteran FBs that are not on teams and aren't really that old. Somebody posted the list awhile back.

A spot almost always opens up after the 1st game or 2.

They probably won't, but I would do the same thing with a guy like Hayden. I just don't see anybody signing him if he is cut. He might eventually get signed when teams start having injures at mid season, but I don't see anybody looking at him on the cut date and think that he's better than their own guys.

The 7th LB is another place where they probably want a guy like Cam Lawrence because of special teams ability, but he would be less likely to get signed by another team than the 6th WR, 4th RB, etc..

Personally I think they have have there eye on leach but he will be a post week 1 pickup so his contract is not guaranteed.

I really hate everything Webb embodies. How are you gonna have long *** dreads and be soft? This must be a first for the nfl.
