Here's what I hope happens to Jason Garrett in the off-season...

I hope we find a way to keep JG one more season. But it's not likely

I don't see Jerry letting Garrett go. Somehow, someway, he's staying. I see Garrett in the future moreso than Wade.

That is absolutely right.

You can sit down with Garrett and Wade and talk about the future, etc.

This will get very interesting -- I've heard several times that Jerry's plan originally involved hiring Garrett to work under BP for a year and then take over in 2008

That's not "absolutely right".

It's pretty simple. I know that Dallas shouldn't pattern anything after what Washington does but Greg Williams has a clause in his contract that he gets $1 Million if he's not the next head coach when Gibbs leave.

I think Phillips is comfortable with himself. He realizes that he's not a spring chicken and he's not going to be in Dallas a few years from now. He took the Dallas job at an advanced age to cement a legacy. A Super Bowl and it'll never be mentioned again that he was "a great coordinator who wasn't HC material".

I don't know why so many people think Jason will leave next year. He will become HC of the Cowboys in a year or two and that is worth the wait. Ask yourself a question, would you rather be the HC of a Romo led team or an Eli led team. The answer for me is a nobrainer.

On my drive to work a little while ago I was listening to the Drive with Chris Meyers on FOX radio, and he mentioned that when Jerry was looking for a head coach, he essentially hired Co-Head Coaches in Phillips and Garrett. There is an agreement in their contracts that protects the Cowboys from Jason leaving this year. That is one reason that Jerry hired an older coach, so Jason can take over sooner rather than later.

He sounded more matter of fact than speculation. His co-host asked him about it and he was quite confident in what he was reporting. He also mentioned that other teams may look into doing something like this, a HC for the offense and one for the defense. It requires coaches without the big egos, he said.

I haven't heard this before................

I love JG, but i dont think we are giving phillips enough credit for what he is doing with this team. The way he is keeping TO in check and developing this defense. If phillips indeed does take this team to the NFC champ. or SB, you CANNOT fire him. I would hate to see JG go, but i think he know he has a legit. chance to win a SB in the next years as the OC, even though he has rings as a player. I hope to god he will stay, but i dont think you can get rid of phillips to have JG as the head coach.

I dont think the giants job will be available. The giants ARE going to the playoffs and they are a good team. I think they will advance to round 2 even if they play the packers (depending on ELI), I dont think that the giants office will fire coughlin after that....just my thoughts

I think Jerry should sign Garrett to a contract that guarantees him the HC job when Wade departs. I don't want Garrett to bolt.

Thats called tying your hands and thats never a good business decision. The only thing Dallas can do to try and keep him is throw money at him and call him Co-Head Coach.

I realize Dallas O has some serious talent. But frankly so do many teams around this league. I don't think our talent is head & shoulders above other teams out there. But I do think the difference is our OC.

How many new OC's this year took over teams that were Top 5 scoring offenses last year? And how many OC's have two assistant coaches in their braintrust who have playcalled for Top 5 offenses in the past?

For an offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett has as good of a situation as anywhere in the NFL, and his next job certainly won't be as cherry. It only bothers me because he gets so much of the credit when it deserves to be spread around.

If he is offered a HC job, he's obviously going to need to bring in his own staff, unless he wants to use someone else's. I don't know how much networking he's established with other coaches, but trying to piece together a good staff is a big battle in itself.

That's a good point.

The ideal situation would be for him to stay onboard for at least another season and continue his success. He's got time - those coaching vacancies are going to come and go.
That's a good point. - Clearly one of the major issues facing a young first time head coach would be putting his staff together.

I could almost assure you that his offensive coordinator would be his brother.

You don't know that to make it an absolute statement.

We don't know what JG desires, maybe he is willing to wait to become Cowboys HC or maybe he wants to be a HC as soon as possible even if that means going to another team.

But I think it is fairly safe to say his goal is to become a HC of an NFL team but the question is, is it with Cowboys or any team that offers him a gig next year.
