WILL RANDY MOSS BE A PROBLEM IN NEW ENGLAND?

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 22, 2008
A day after the Patriots were blown out at home by the Dolphins, there are increasing questions springing up about whether the attitude of wide receiver Randy Moss will become a problem.
Yesterday former Texans and Commanders G.M. Charley Casserly said Moss is either injured or has lost a step, and that Moss isn’t showing much effort in his blocking.
Today the Boston Globe reports that Moss sat all by himself on the bench for most of the first half of Sunday’s loss, that he didn’t even try to reach for an overthrown Matt Cassel pass in the third quarter, and that he didn’t turn for an underthrown ball that Cassel threw him at another point in the game.
When the Globe asked him about the adjustment to playing with Cassel, Moss said, “You like starting trouble, man. I’m not going to answer that. Put it in your own column. Next question.”
On ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning today, Moss’s former teammate, Cris Carter, said that while he doesn’t think Moss will become a distraction to the Patriots, he does think Moss has to be disappointed with the way this season is headed because, “Randy went to New England to play with Tom Brady.”
Moss looked last season like he had a new lease on life, and by all accounts he’s been a good teammate in New England. But what no one knows is whether he will still be a good teammate if the Patriots’ offense goes in the tank.

This right here proves that T.O. is a better all-around athlethe and person than Moss. I have never ever watch T.O. quit and probably never will. I'd take Owens over Moss any day!

Terrell Owens is the better WR and will always be. He doesn't give up on plays and gives it 110% everytime he is on the field.

The same crap was being said about TO when Bledsoe was in. Why not give Moss a break? The teams woes aren't his fault.

I'm just enjoying the woes though... Every loss must just pain Bellicheat... :)

Moss is also a one-trick pony. Yes-he's scary b/c he's THE BEST deep threat in the NFL who can catch with 2-3 guys in traffic. However-he's not mentally tough enough to make those catches underneath/over the middle. He HATES contact. Etc, etc.

TO does SO much more-he can make the tough catches over the middle. He's a deep threat. And he's also very well built physically.

But yeah-I read about what you posted last night. When Brady went down, I had a gut feeling it was only a matter of time before Moss "hangs it up". Remember when Belichick kicked Glenn off the team due to character issues that were ripping the locker room apart. It will be interesting to see how he handles Moss if things get worse in the coming weeks.

I was thrilled about that one cause he had the score rung up on him for a change, as I expect it will be throughout the year (possibly worse than this) and he deserves it for his classless running up the scores last year.

I'm sure TO would be pissed if he was on that aweful Raiders team and currently has Cassell as a QB. TO had Young, Garcia (decent), McNabb, and Romo. Pretty good list of QBs.

Moss and TO are pretty equal WR's to me. Put them with good QB's and they will do well.

All but one of their scores were on running plays by Ronnie Brown.

*shrugs* I don't see how you can blame that on running up the score, b/c it showed how horrible the Pats D looked.

Moss doesn't get a break because A) Future Hall Of famers don't suppose to quit on their teammmates B) Moss quits when he doesn't win. C) This isn't the first team he has quit on.

T.O. is a far better receiver and a far better team-mate.

People can say what they like about Owens but at the end of the day he has it all. Deep threat? yes, over the middle? yes, yards after catch? yes, gives his all on every play? yes.....run through that list with Moss and you get the answer yes to one question.

Moss is the biggest frontrunner in the league. He alligator armed a slant pass yesterday, because he dosen't like to get hit. That clown mailed it in at halftime yesterday. He dosent give maximum effort on every play and he's a dog. Screw Moss.

Pretty soon you'll start seeing Moss' "hamstring" problems that he had all the time in Oakland start suddenly happening to him in NE this year.
Don't worry, it sure clear up about the time Brady is back though....

I know football is a TEAM sport, and that you really can't blame one play, playcall, etc for saying how it changed the outcome of the game et al.

However-being down ONLY 21-6, Moss had a chance to make a BIG game-changing play...but he just GAVE UP on this route. Here's the play...

Pt being that if Moss really wants to be a leader on this team, he needs to MAKE that play. And who knows? It's 21-13? The crowd gets back into it? The Pats D gets pumped again? The momentum swings back to the Pats?

The pass was not dramatically overthrown, either. It was in a spot where only Moss could get to it, but he never even put his arms up.

As a household with Dolphins fan ties, we couldn't have been more thrilled. :)

not it wasn't.

TO has always played hard. despite the situation.

Moss on the other hand is a front runner. all the praise he got last year was crap.

Last year-Jaws showed the Eagles game tape how Moss was giving up on plays.

There was a play in there where he lined up in the slot opposite Sheldon Brown. The main receiver was Kevin Faulk split wide b/c they had a mismatch with Omar Gaither covering him, while Moss was the secondary receiver.

IOW-Moss was nothing more than a decoy on the play, and ALL he had to do was to just MERELY get a clean release off the LOS, hence getting the coverage his way and leaving Faulk 1-1 with a LB.

Good news was that Faulk beat his man, but Moss was lazy to get that clean release, hence Faulk ended up getting double covered, and Brady's pass almost got picked.

Maybe Moss was mad he wasn't getting the ball in that situation? I don't know. At first, it seemed like Jaws was just grasping for straws, but when you look at it again, it sure looked like he just quit on the play when Brown made contact with him.

Like I said above-Belichick had guts to kick Terry Glenn off the team once he became a distraction in their locker room. I wonder how he'll handle Moss if the situation gets out of hand.

Moss & TO are in different stages of their life. TO turns 35 in December while Moss is around 31. TO knows the Cowboys are his best shot to win the SB which is what he really craves along with a bunch more TDs. He's respected in Dallas by the Cowboy organization, the coaching staff, his teammates and his QB who he also respects and trusts. The Cowboys are also the most visible team in the NFL and constantly appear in prime time games. Besides he knows Romo is always trying to get him the ball & next game is against the Skins; we all know what happened against them last year in Dallas.

MOSS is Jordan - TO is Kobe - both great - but Kobe can't touch MJ and TO can't touch Moss.

Nonsense post.

Are you sure about that? Remember the Buffalo game last year? Witten seems to be his first option most of the time.
