NEW YORK - Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker once played Russian roulette with a loaded pistol as he struggled with a personality disorder.

"To challenge death like I was doing, you start saying, there's a problem here,'' he said during an interview to be broadcast Monday night on ABC's "Nightline.''

Walker suffers from dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder. His experiences are chronicled in his book, "Breaking Free,'' which is released this week.

The 46-year-old Walker was a star running back at Georgia and in the pros. He says he had the condition during his playing days but didn't realize it. He doesn't remember winning the Heisman in 1982 or darker events, such as threatening his then-wife.

Walker has been in treatment for eight years but doesn't take medication. He believes he has improved greatly.

"I've totally changed from back then to where I am today,'' he says.

Bet he still looks like he could step on the field.

I saw him on a interview this morning on one of those early morning shows and yes, he looked like he was in his 20's

NOW the truth comes out. Apparently Mike Lynn didn't get fleeced as badly as we first thought. He got the same number of guys back from the Cowboys, and still saved on equipment, travel and per diem expenses.:p:

I didn't think that joke was particularly funny the first time I heard it earlier today.

Walker is also hawking his book, and maybe his ghost writer has put a little gravy on the mashed potatoes. At least his condition wasn't as acute about some of the cases I have read about.

Maybe we all exhibit multiple personalities to some degree. Don't we all act differently depending on the environment and people we are around, i.e., friends, women, work etc.. On the weekend I also go to the local liquor store and buy a bottle of personality disorder.

I am being facetious and a little cynical but with Walker being able to stabilize himself with counseling alone it is a good sign that the disorder wasn't as severe as it could have been.

I remember when Hershel left his car running in with his garage door closed. Some called it an attempted suicide, but I think he just said he fell asleep.

I am sorry that Herschell Walker has this disorder.

However, he's selling a book. And perhaps he misses the spotlight.
I am all for the catharctic and the goal of perhaps helping others.
But keep in mind he's on the book-selling circuit.

Face it. Had his disorder not brought on such dangerous activities (Russian roulette; and we'll have to take his word for it), his book would be much less exciting.

Also, he discloses he is not taking medication at this time for the disorder, so it must not be that much of a disorder.

Call me insensitive but I think it's just book-selling hype.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I get to thinking I am Jerra Jones and spending lavishly everywhere I go. Then I come to my senses, lookaround this little Halfway House room and see that my bank account has $37, a head injury to boot and boy, that is a hard reality to accept.

Other times I think that I am Hos and typing my 600,000 post . . .
