Herschel Walker Talking Comeback

Love me some Herschel. I'll even forgive him for not naming the Cowboys as the team tops on his list. Loved his 2nd tour of duty in Dallas.

I am always on board with older athlete comebacks. Bring it Herschel.

For those worried about how long he'd last I actually doubt he'd be seeing much action. Its not like anyone would hand him the ball 20 times a game. No one was doing that his last few years in the league.

Odds are it would end ugly. I have no doubt he feels he's in better shape but "being in shape" is a very generic non-scientific reference. Usually means, I'm lean, I'm strong & I'm fast. I have no doubt all those measureables could be better for him now than before. I believe there are many dedicated older athletes that can back that up as well. But there is more to athletic success than that. Yes, taking a hit, physical recovery etc. I doubt Herschel is as quick or has the same burst. I remember Dorsett late in his cvareer claiming his 40 time was as strong as ever. It did NOT translate to production on the field. Jerry Rice makes those same claims as well. Sometimes when you're done it doesn't show up in a 40 time or bench press etc.

Pretty sure Herschel would be nowhere near what he was when young. But it'd be fun anyway.

I'd love to see him give it a shot. The entertainment factor alone would be worth his effort to attempt it.

I thought he had split personalities. This sounds like bipolar.

wow that harsh...maybe the guy is just in shape and feeling good. i say...let him dream...its better than the alternative that most other 48 years olds seem to adopt...having a gut and watching too much "Two and Half Men".

I like Herschel, but I'm tired of seeing his abs on magazine covers.

Herschel, put the Rocky movies back on the shelf next to The Longest Yard. Thanks.

just sign him to run back kickoffs in a preseason game--the publicity would be worth it

If nothing else he might be a terror on kick coverage teams.

Maybe he can be a guard or tackle, the dudes still a freak.

Herschel is my all time favorite football player but obviously this is crazy.

He did say he ran a 40 this week and he was clocked at 4.4.

Let's just say that Herchel has been known to throw things out there in the media to promote himself and his Superhuman abilities that have proven to be a little dubious. Let's just also say Herchel might be batcrap insane.

Herschel Walker Talking Comeback

He could no longer play when he left the game the first time...so...no.

Herchel Walker was great for two reasons - great straight line speed and great strength. He had no special instincts or vision or cutting ability. If the speed has slowed to average, and the body is that of a well trained 48 year old rather than a well trained 30 year old, I can't imagine him being able to do much. Again, maybe a FB in a system where he doesn't have to play every down, but I can't imagine him being good enough that any team would favor him over a younger guy that would have a longer future.

Hope he stays away from Dallas then. That would definitely not be Romo Friendly.

I never heard this story. Jim Brown would probably have lost a footrace to OJ even in his prime.

It wasn't OJ - it was Franco Harris. Brown threatened to come back so Harris wouldn't break his all time rushing record. He didn't respect Harris because Harris ran out of bounds all the time to avoid contact.

There was a prime time, Superstars type competition set up between the two, and in the sprint competition, Brown pulled a hamstring and lost to Harris.

Harris is a different story - never was a speedster. Of course, if Brown pulled his hamstring the race didn't really tell anything. Sounds like it may have been more of a publicity thing than Brown really hinging his potential comeback on a footrace. If Brown had been that concerned about records he wouldn't have retired as early as he did.

I never heard about this but did he really pull his hamstring? Sounds awful convient to me.

I have never known him to set out to do something and not succeed.

You are right on, bro. He succeeded as an FBI agent, a ballet dancer, a bobsledder and as an actor, didn't he?

No thanks necessary for correcting yew.

Herschel is promoting a fight he has coming up in Strikeforce. Last time they fed him a can who he beat and looked pretty unimpressive while doing so. If he ever fights anyone who has even average talent, his MMA career will end very quickly.

It would have been close. Brown was allegedly in the 4.3 range early on.
