What with school and trying to maintain a decent GPA until graduation, I havent been around much since the game that shall not be mentioned in January....
Anyway, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents into the ring since apparently everyone, their dog, fish, and hispanic lawnkeeper who speaks two words of english have something to say about the swirl of rumors around the Cowboys these last few weeks.
First of all, let me make this clear: I despise Pacman Jones. I hate what he stands for. I hate that he treats women with so little respect. I hate that he has, time and again, done nothing but perpetuate the stereotype of young african-americans thinking they are above the law. It's people like him that make racism linger, there are too many self-respecting minorities who get generalized because of thugs like Jones. He is a young man who needs to take more than a few steps back and re-evaluate where his life is going.
That being said, this is professional football, not the southern baptist convention. His job is to cover NFL receivers, and if he can still perform that job at a high level, I say (with hesitation) get him, if the price is right. By right, I mean nothing higher than a 5th round pick, preferably in next year's draft. No team ever won a title in any sport without guys of questionable character helping them along. Hopefully, he can shape up and realize he has no more chances after this. I know this may sound like selling out my beliefs for the desire to win, but isnt that what professional sports is? Honestly, I'd love to have a team of choir boys, but it's just not a reasonable expectation. We have enoguh high character players in Dallas to hopefully reel him in, and if not, I'd have no problem dumping his arse in a heartbeat.
Now, onto the big fish know as Darren McFadden. I would first like to say the following: Damn you Jerry Jones. Damn your links to Arkansas. Damn your comments about a "wow" player. Damn your ego and gunsliger ways.
I hate to say it, but if we get Pacman (and it's looking like we will), I would be more surprised if Jerry DIDNT trade up for McFadden. It just makes too much sense. I don't want it, I'll groan about it, and then I'll hope McFadden is this year's Adrian Peterson. Honestly, what else can we do if Jerry does it? Can anyone say they'd be shocked? Really? This is the most gung-ho owner in sports, he'll do things most owners wouldnt even dream of on a hardcore acid trip. I reall hope we stay pat and pick the best CB/RB/WR available, but alas, Jerry's the guy to do it if there ever was one.
