You want a team of choir boys that wins........root for the San Antonio Spurs........no police blotters, no criminal histories, just a group of solid, classy, respectful, upstanding guys who play the game right and give so much of their time and money back to their community.....
in an era of All About Me, Thuggy, and Cheating Athletes......the Spurs are a breath of fresh air....unfortunately, the NBA has dropped the ball on marketing them as an image to present to the world. Even during the thuggy times of the late 90s and early Millennium, the Spurs were squeaky clean. You have black guys, white guys, hispanic guys all working and hanging out together like a family. You have educated men of different races and creeds, who are positive images for your children to look up to.
You can call Bruce Bowen a dirty player all you want....but Go back and read his biography....read about his troubled upbringing and all the trials and turmoil he had to overcome. Then he had to fight, and I mean scratch and claw his way onto a permanent NBA roster.....And he has continued to completely outwork so many others 10-15 years younger than he is. He is definitely someone I would want my children looking up to as far as work ethic and never giving in because things dont always go peachy for you.
Look at Tim Duncan....he lost both of his parents to Cancer. He lost his love, his passion (Swimming) to a Hurricane. All he did was go to Wake Forest, get an education, and become one of the best basketball players in the world.
I haven't even mentioned Robinson, Elliott, etc.....I could go on and on.....but no team I have ever rooted for has ever had the complete character and dignity as the Spurs have. I am so thankful they are based in my community.
I agree with you HH31....I do not like Pac Man at all. However, I did watch several Tennessee games that year, cause Vince is one of my favorite players. I must say that 2 players took the Titans from 0-5 to within 1 game of the playoffs........Vince Young (offensive rookie of the year) and PacMan Jones. Jones was a ballhawk on defense and lethal threat as a kick returner. I give the Titans a conditional 5 in 2009 for him. Have those conditions be not only play-based, but also conduct-based.
I sure as hell don't want McFadden. I hated Adrian Peterson, and thought he was an injury waiting to happen. However, when healthy, Peterson was a beast, almost completely unstoppable. I hate that people are trying to compare DMac to AD.....DMac is nowhere near the RB that AD is. I am not even sure that I would be happy with Felix Jones either. I am looking more at guys like Jamaal Charles (blazing speed, can run inside and out), Chris Johnson (love his speed and absolute versatility), Ray Rice (has shown he can carry the load, but not much of a receiver out of the backfield), and Kevin Smith (a workhorse, great vision and footwork, totally reminds me of Emmitt). I also like Anthony Alridge late in the draft (blazing speed, can run and catch, can return kicks). I also want to get FB Owen Schmitt.....(he can run with decent speed, but tons of power....he blocks like a beast...great hands as a receiver.....and he could be our backup Punter in case McBriar gets dinged)
As far as drafting CBs.....I like DRC, Jenkins and Cason in the 1st. I like Lee (I think he is going to be a real steal for whoever drafts him) and Godfrey in the 2nd. When it comes to safeties....I like Josh Barrett, Tyrell Johnson, David Roach, and Bobbie Williams.
We seem to have 3 guys who can play OT. However, we lack depth at OG and OC...I would like to draft G/C McDuffie and allow him to be Gurode's primary backup, while also being able to be maybe 3rd string G.
WRs that I like......Limas Sweed, James Hardy, Donnie Avery, and Dexter Jackson.
QBs I like are Josh Johnson, Paul Smith.
