Count me in with those so-called experts guessing correctly yet again that the Cowboys will not be a contender this year.

Whatever you do, don't remind posters on this board that you was correct when the team proves you right this season. You will be accused of wishing for a bad season just so that you could say you was right. Heaven forbid that some of our opinions are proved right by the teams poor play. Being right about negative things makes us bad fans and stuff.

How many posters here have predicted the Cowboys WILL contend this year? How many have said who knows, maybe they can but that's a long shot, or they will finish with 3 to 8 wins? Without looking but having seen most of the posts on this board I can tell you the latter is a landslide. If they make the playoffs then a whole lot of things will have to happen just right; primarily on defense which was historically bad last year. That's why they were a longshot even before Lee went down.

So with most everyone saying contending and the playoffs is a longshot, who is really getting a gold star for predicting the obvious?

Agreed.

Given the team's defensive performance last season, the injury to Lee, Romo's surgery and the schedule, I'm not seeing a lot of folks going apeshat and proclaiming a 12-4 season.

Most seem to be of the "If we make the playoffs we'll be fortunate" category.

There are two kinds of preseason predictions around here. 1) Yes, we're a contender and 2) Who knows?

When you hear the who knows you know the team is pretty bad.

And the answer to that question is I know. They have no shot to win anything this year. That defensive roster is an absolute embarrassment to the franchise.

Well, the most likely outcome is we look good offensively and struggle defensively. But every year teams who appear to not be ready do compete and vice versa. 5-8 new teams make the playoffs every year.

It's a longshot but they could get into the playoffs. I wouldn't wager that though. There's just too many IFs on defense. But it's absolutely not out of the question.

It would take the entire division laying an egg for the Cowboys to backdoor into the playoffs as a pretender who quickly gets bounced out.

I remember a time when that wasn't nearly good enough, so that possibility doesn't excite me. You're either a real contender or you're not and the Cowboys are not.

I predict more frustrating feast or famine from the offense. Its been that way for a long time. Why does it change now ?

I actually expect all four teams to be better this year.

Washington's offense will be a handful IMO.

NY will be better offensively although the OL still a question. They have worked their DBs and LBs. They could have a pretty good D.

Philly is hard to tell. If McCoy is healthy they are trouble. Esp if you don't have fast LBers and good tackling DBs. Foles will be hard pressed to repeat last year. Pressure creates problems for him. They will be difficult IMO but you never know.

Our offense should be improved. Significantly IMO. If it can repeat last year, run the ball effectively, and do well on 3rd down then they will be all anyone can handle. The D will be a good bit better than last year. My guess is 14 to 22 or so. That may be enough to compete.

Are they SB contenders? Hardly but you can't even rule that out. Playoffs longshot. SB a very longshot.

I agree - I see history repeating itself - the history of 2011,2012, 2013 = 8 and 8!

The OL should be one of the best in the NFL. Linehan seems to get results. Romo is an elite QB. The WR corps is better. The TEs should be. I like our RBs esp behind this line. What's not to like? Doesn't guarantee results though.

if i post negatively, but can back it up and the team backs up what i say, is that negative and just reality? If the defense is bad, the defense is bad, we are adults we dont need to fight over sugar coating it. the team is bad. lets just start there, is it a Jags team bad, no, is it a fair roster with a bad coach, possibly. is it injury bitten, sure, but at the end of the season, its a bad defense.

this is good too, i think its harder to feel that way right now with the eagles as the top of the divsion and the skins i feel are a wild card because who knwos what Jay Gruden brings his first year, and if the Giants cant right the ship, than yes, your pridection is not off base. Just because you disagree with me doesnt mean i cant see how you came to that conclusion and a few games go our way and yes, the Cowboys are right in it.

Anyone else seeing some similarities in how this team is put together and the 91 Cowboys?

QB...check

Running game...check

OL becoming a strength...check

Explosive receivers...check

A young and fast defense with something to prove...check

If we get that wave on the DL working I can easily see 11-5 and a couple of playoff games.
We are the Cowboys and this is the zone, here we don't do positive. We only look at the negative aspects of our team and ignore any negatives of our rivals. At the zone doom and gloom = reality and any positive viewpoints are only the ravings of laced kool-aid drinking Pollyannas.

If we have a middle of the pack defense I think we will be 10-6 this year. D-Law is the key and if he plays good we will be 8-8 or 9-7. However, if he has a season that would give him ROTY shine we will be 10-6 with a lucky bounce away from 11-5.

I followed the Cowboys just as closely then as I do now, plus I live in the middle of DFW. Nobody was expecting a Super Bowl in the summer of 1991.

Keep in mind that Erik Williams was just a rookie that had never taken a snap in the NFL at that point. Nate Newton had been playing RT. The OL had not really come together yet.

The defense was nothing special either. Russell Maryland had yet to play a snap as a rookie. Darren Woodson, Kevin Smith and Charles Haley were not on the team.
You hit the nail on the head. This team is almost completely overhauled and in my opinion that's a good thing.

We went from **** to sugar in a much more difficult environment than it is now. Teams fortunes change yearly in this era that's reason a lone to be more optimistic.

I will gladly take my chances with this young and hungry team, they are going to be very fun to watch.
