Hit on Zeke on final play

I hadn't even considered that. Now I'm mad. I hope somebody with the Cowboys sends a tape of that to the NFL front office and demands a fine on that defender.

It's useless to demand anything, but the play speaks for itself. And the team quality control dept. routinely sends all questionable plays to the league for review. The league then has the obligation and responsibility to re-educate and/or sanction those involved. Also, this happens urgently, so that corrective action can be taken before the next game.

thanks for the youtube version !
It was a cheap shot and maybe against the rules, not sure, but a cheap shot at least.
not good for player safety.

Elliot needs to watch out next time they play these guys, and some payback on 53 ?? would be good.

What I personally didn't like was how Elliott got up and just stared at the guy. Keep an eye on the QB and do something, that ball could have came his way for all he knew.

Witten already caught the pass, play was over

Yes, pretty sure it is legal. You can chip guys at the LOS. Zeke was right at the line and paying no attention, sort of just a decoy, and the defender engaged him.

Cheap? Maybe. But he's got to keep his head on a swivel.
You're wrong. It's illegal.

When playing the Eagles, expect to get dirty

His head hit the turf pretty hard, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a little out of it for a second or two. By the time he was back on his feet the ball was already in the air. I'm sure he was also expecting to see a flag laying on the ground when he got up.

It was within the 5 yards so I don't see it as a penalty

If all the defender had done was a chuck in the front, a little push off, some hand fencing, yes.

This was a full on pop in the back that knocked a potential receiver down face first on the field with the QB still in the pocket holding the ball.

Yep. It is 100% illegal contact and this defender was lucky he wasn't flagged for a personal foul.

Hicks did the same thing to Elliott earlier in the game but Zeke kept his balance and caught the pass

Did you guys see what happened to Zeke on the final play of the game? He's out to the left, clearly as a receiver, and #53 from Philly comes over and nails him right in the back sending Zeke face first into the turf just past the line of scrimmage. Is that a legal play? It can't be right? But it was literally right in front of one of the refs and he did nothing, so maybe I'm missing something. It looked dirty to me. Thoughts?

Link, video of final play (Somebody smarter than me feel free to embed video)

Yea- I saw that too. He got knocked completely out of the play. That was legal.

Most rules are written as prohibitions on conduct, so I doubt you are going to see anything that says "Defenders may hit receivers in the back."

You need to point me to something that says it is prohibited. I'm not aware of any rule that prohibits it, but I may be wrong. It's not holding, it's not pass interference, and I'm almost positive it's not illegal use of hands. So how is it illegal?

It's literally posted three posts above yours.

Could the NFL fine him (and, yes, I know the NFL can fine anyone at anytime for whatever)?

If I had anything to do with it, the first play of the next game against them would be designed to have two OL hammer him as hard as they can. I'm talking laying him out or driving him into the turf. I'd even be okay with the 15 yard penalty.

This was as blatant as the basketball modeled pick plays the Saints were running. Maybe refs are just stupid? Blandino, honestly seems to be. I want professional refs like the NBA. NCAA should have its own pro refs too. Greed by "these people" has no bounds.
