In my opinion, this isn't helpful at all. If you want to "fight", I'll send you to Don King.

What a mess. The head coach has to be more assertive with his leadership, on and off the field.

Don't worry - everything is under control - the head coach is changing his personality - so we should be good to go.

I disagree.

You need players that are extensions of the Coaching Staff in the locker room.

The Head Coach is not going to be able to see everything that goes on inside and outside the locker room.

Keith Davis trying to instill discipline and a work ethic in his teammates is good but it's effects will be limited because Keith Davis is an average player.

If Demarcus Ware, Bradie James, Tony Romo, or Flozell Adams had this type of mentality it would have a larger effect on the locker room.

This is why Ray Lewis to Dallas is a great idea. Ray Lewis is an "Alpha male", a winner, someone who "gets it" and is well respected.

Disagree -- Keith is the captain of the special teams - for the most part, you've got average players and backups playing ST. So his leadership is very effective in that role.

That's fine but the core group of players on that team are not going to listen to Keith Davis.

Demarcus Ware, Tony Romo, Bradie James, Flozell Adams all carry more weight in the locker room.

If Keith Davis is hollerin but guys like the aforementioned are not on the same page, it will have very "limited" results.

That core group of players isn't playing ST like Bennett is.

Isn't that the whole point of having captains over certain areas of the team?

Did Keith Davis go after Martellus Bennett because he is a player on "Special Teams" or did Keith Davis go after Martellus Bennett because he is a member of the team and his laid back attitude wasn't appreciated?

Personally, I think Keith Davis goes after Martellus Bennett regardless of whether he plays Special Teams or not.

Furthermore, if guys like Jason Witten, Tony Romo, Flozell Adams, just to name a few, did these types of things, Keith Davis wouldn't have too.

This goes back to what I call the "Michael Irvin" Effect. The guy was one of the best players on the team and he "demanded" that everyone respect the game and work their tail off.

Michael Irvin's words don't mean as much if he is an average player on the team, imo.

witten was frustrated with bennett. He said as much on the radio a number of times.

and what did bennett say about witten on owens radio show...."I dont care what witten says"

witten talked at length about his rookie year and the hell dan campbell put him through, and he hated it but accepted it and respected campbell because he knew he was a good player who worked hard and he wanted to be just like him. Plus he had parcells riding his tail everyday.

Bennett meanwhile follows in owens footsteps and fits right in with the laid back family, trust loyalty and common purpose theme from the head coach.

so what happens, the guys used to discipline and hard work get frustrated and challenge young cocky entilted rookies to fights.

13-3 in 07 though, so we have that going for us.

Couple things from this topic...

Yes we need more guys like Davis who understand the goals and the team concept of working hard as a team. Obviously this team doesn't have enough of those types of individuals to keep bad seeds from poisoning the team.

Secondly I've always said, my whole life, I'd MUCH RATHER fight the bigger dudes. Little dudes always tend to be much more scrappy and will always come at you with the attitude of they're fighting you to the death.

Little guys are always more dangerous. At least in my experience.

Davis likely went after Bennett b/c of something on ST. He wouldn't be in meetings etc. with him otherwise. That would be where they worked together the most.

Irvin was a great leader but really only when he had a solid HC. His effectiveness was totally sapped once Jimma and other leaders left the team. This team freaking crumbled discipline-wise even with Irvin "leading."

That may be the case, I just assumed it was because of his attitude in general.

Regardless, Keith Davis is going to need help from guys with alot more talent to change the vibe in the locker room.

Even if the Head Coach is a creme puff, I still think strong character in the locker room can hold a team together.

No we don't, otherwise we'd be burned all day in the passing game... I don't care about what happened between Keith Davis and Bennett, I care about why Garrett didn't use him more in the passing game, despite making one awesome catch after another.

I said that in another thread and people disagreed.

We so need to re-sign him. Sometimes it is so not about talent.

agree 100%

they also want to trade Anthony Henry for John Beck

it's the intangibles that he brings

we need more professionals like Keith Davis, this is a guy who wants to be a starting SS, but even when he's not, he goes all out on special teams still

He is also out getting shot like five or six times...

Martellus Bennett showed his value on the team and made steady improvement. WHy the hell are people bringing this crap up now? Oh, let me guess the rap video...
