Free agent OLB Jason Taylor says he's drawing the interest of four teams.

Taylor is taking his time in making a decision due to the lack of a salary cap this year. As the best pass rusher left on the market, he'll have other legit options beyond Miami this time around.

No thank you. Brandon Williams coming back from injury and Victor Butler with another year under his belt, there's no need to sign a stop-gap guy like Jason Taylor.

Why would we? He's not a 3-4 lb and not a 3-4 DE......pass

I dont want to hear any of this "age" crap and how we should get younger.

The guy immediately makes us a better team, and may as a 3rd down pass rusher may still reach 8 sacks or so.

We have no depth at OLB, and at this point in his career, I'd assume he would accept a backup role.

Our defense is built around a pass rush, and if we can get him with a reasonable contract, I'd love to have him.

No, we are not one of the interested teams. We weren't 2 years ago, we weren't last year, and now he is 2 years older, so why would we be now? Exactly, we wouldn't be.

Because he would provide us with a pass rush rotation and therefore keep our legs fresher on Ware/Spencer late in the game.

I dont know about you, but when you base your entire defense around a pass rush, I want more than two options off the edge.

:banghead:You need to develop your younger players. Look what happened when we let ocho uno go, we find a franchise WR in Miles Austin.

I'm not saying we need to start him.

I'm saying he would be a great asset coming in off the bench if he would accept that role. He immediately makes us better than Butler/Williams, not to mention with his wisdom of pass rushing, he can help the young'ns...maybe even Ware.

BWill and Butler are still unknown commodities as pass rushers. Taylor can still be effective as a part-time player in a pass rusher specialist capacity. The issue is cost and I suspect he wants $6-7M which is too much when we already have Spencer and Ware coming from the outside.

ware mentioned that he thought williams was ready to "bust out" this season.

not to mention that guys like v butler should only get better with a year under their belt.

I doubt we'd be interested. But at the right very inexpensive price? Never say never.

I think Jerry has done a good job of late in balancing the desire to improve today with building a team for tomorrow as well. You have to choose your spots very carefully on that one.

I'll grant you that having Taylor on the team could make us better today. I'm quite sure Wade could find a way to make productive use of Ware, Spencer & Taylor on obvious passing downs.

If they wanted to get an older player to spell Ware and Spencer, they would get Greg Ellis back before they went after Taylor.

Exactly.

Ellis has 27.5 sacks over the last 3 years compared to Taylor's 21.5 sacks. They both had 7 sacks last season. Ellis is a year younger. Joey Porter is younger than both and had 9 sacks last year. Ellis is familiar with the system and can also move inside in 3rd and long situations so both Spencer and Ware can stay on the field.

That doesn't mean Dallas needs to sign Ellis, but he would make more sense than Taylor.

Anyway I seriously doubt Dallas has shown any interest in Taylor. You don't sign 35 year old guys in March. If you want someone like that you wait until training camp has started or have played a couple of pre-season games.
