Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers announced the hiring of Greg Manusky as their new defensive coordinator. Terms of the contract were not released. Manusky had served as the linebackers coach of the San Diego Chargers for the past five seasons.

No, he wasn't. Singletary was Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers Coach.

I thought this was already posted, or I would have mentioned it earlier. Sucks, cause Manusky would have been a great hire here.

He wasn't the DC... I believe LB coach. There was speculation that he would be moved to DC, but SF squashed that.

DC - Rivera
LB - Singletary

No, not necessarily.

I just think it has become very apparent that Jerry is going to go in a direction he's familiar with IF POSSIBLE which would leave many potential candidates on the sidelines-- so to speak. I'm not saying this is right, wrong or indifferent but the path seems pretty apparent to me.

Norv as HC and Bowels as DC....yes that would make me negative.

However as I have said in another thread.

If Rivera came on as DC...I still would not like Norv as the HC, but it would make it easier to digest.

I just want someone proven to take over the DC job.

I don't want Jerry to worry about Jason and Tony so much that he just half steps it on Defense.

I could live w/Norv as HC, Rivera as DC., and JG as OC. With that scenario all bases would be covered.

I could also be OK w/Rivera HC, JG as OC, Bowels as DC. I would still question how well Bowels could handle the job but we would at least have Rivera to bail him out if needed. Then again Rivera may want to bring in his own DC.
