I certainly wouldn't criticize his eye for talent. The roster is much younger, ang no real talent has left the team. Spencer might be the exception, but Jerry might be the culpret there. Not all the draftees and FAs aregoing to be a home run, but a timely single or double may be all that is needed. This year's class has a lot of potential. Frederick, regardless of where he was drafted, is going to be a stud. I can't wait to see Romo exercise the WRs and TEs in Oakland
I don't have a problem with his 'eye for talent' either. Although I think the 'eye for talent' stuff is overblown.
But, I could see somebody's point if they feel the talent level isn't there and that's why he's gone 8-8.
I personally look at 'eye for talent' as mostly rubbish. 90% of the teams each year have virtually the same grades on players in the draft. It's the coach's ability to develop that talent, along with a little luck injury wise. The 'best drafters' in my mind are really the teams with the coach's that develop their talent the best.
That's the reason why I'm optimistic with Garrett.
I'm starting to think that Wade was actually a good 'pure' coach. Get him in gameplanning and schematics and he is quite good. That's why he's been a great D-Coordinator.
But, between his lax attitude and the way he has his teams practice (lots of tape study and less actual practicing); he is a poor developer of talent as a HC. I feel that's why his career at Dallas went the way it did. The initial excellent success was due to him having Parcells players that were motivated and perhaps practiced a little too hard under Parcells. But as seasons went by with Wade, the development of talent was poor and it was going to catch up with him just like it did in Buffalo.
I think we're getting a good development of talent under Garrett. So the initial records under him have been average. And my hope is that the opposite of Wade will happen, as Garrett expurgates 'Wade players' from the roster the development of talent will turn the Cowboys into the ultimate success.
