I am not a huge fan of drafting a safety early because I am a much bigger fan of building the defensive line, but this kid Pryor is EVERYWHERE!

I like him better then Ha Ha Dix. He is literally everywhere. So explosive, plays 100 mph every play. I am beginning to be OK with the idea of drafting a safety early, if it THIS kid.

He is my favorite and I have seen him in person. Great player. I have seen Haha in person also and Haha is not a true centerfield ball hawk that dallas needs. Clinton-Dix is a SS in this scheme and we have that in Church. we need a player that can sit back deep and ball hawk. Pryor can do that and also come up and give a hit. Pryor is my favorite safety and only safety I would take in the 1st two round of this draft and I wouldn't take a safety in the 1st this year.

With that said I do not think Pryor is day one ready to start, it will scare me to throw him out there day one as the starter. I would draft him late 2nd if he is BPA and try and get a safety like Major Wright or Chris Clemons on a good fair deal and let Pryor develop take over in the future.

I don't think he will last that long. I have already seen him mocked in the 1st round. And he is the type of guy that is going to blow up at the combine and individual workouts. With his speed and size. Plus he is only 21. I would not be at all surprised if he is the 1st safety taken.

NFLDS currently has him ranked above Ha Ha.

I would be cool with him or HaHa.. Think both of them are better than Hageman, Ealy, etc

My early prediction for 1st rd. pick is Pryor. People are all on about Donald (who I would love for us to pick)--but the Cowboys scouts really do emphasize measurables. Not sure they can overcome his lack of height.

And Jerry has been chomping at the bit to draft a safety in recent years.

Pryor is a stud... I wouldn't be mad if he was the pick at 16/17. We will see how it works out though. I know one thing it will be heavy on the defensive side of the ball.

A guy like him might really start to give the defense a little swagger.

I will be beyond pissed if we go with a defensive back in round 1. Never learn.

Agreed....I would prefer not to go safety this year in the first, unless you thought he had all-pro type ability. Still would be nice to have some 'tude on the defensive side of the ball.

The goal is to take the best player that is available on defense. You don't skip over an all pro safety for an average defensive linemen.

I can't find any good highlight videos of Pryor, though anyone can have a good highlight video, and did not watch much of Louisville this year. Anybody know a lot about him or have some good clips of his play?

I'm find it pretty hard to put Pryor in the tip

Anybody else have a lot of trouble posting here on their phone?

I had like 2 paragraphs typed out.....long story short, I like Pryor but only in a trade down scenario where there is no obvious BPA

If Pryor and Dix grade out as safeties better than Hageman, Ealy, and Nix do as DT than you take the safety.. you don't pass up on a guy because you think you are desperate for DL help..

Though his skill set isn’t as desirable as it was before the NFL’s concussion crisis became widespread, Louisville’s Calvin Pryor is almost certainly the hardest hitter in the 2014 NFL Draft class and has a great chance to be a star at the next level.

Pryor, who recently declared for the draft after three seasons with the Cardinals, has a playing style reminiscent of Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson. He invigorates his defense with his maximum effort on every play, and he’s productive in pretty much every facet of the game . He’s a very good tackler with fantastic form and does not make mistakes.

He’s physical enough that he would fit at the strong safety position, yet his athleticism and playmaking ability make him a prime candidate to play the free safety spot as well. He can come up in the box and make an impact as a run defender, and he’s effective when he lines up as a normal safety too.

If there’s one thing that might end up holding back Pryor in the NFL, it’s something that we don’t yet know much about: his ability in coverage. While Pryor has looked very fast and athletic whenever he’s been on the field at Louisville, he really hasn’t been tested a whole lot with covering receivers in the slot as Louisville runs a scheme where their safeties tend to either stay back or come up to play the run.

Because of his inexperience in the facet of the game , Pryor’s combine performance could play a bigger-than-usual role in determining whether he can slide into the end of the first round or falls to the second.

In addition, Pryor needs to make sure that he stays disciplined in this era of overaggressive officiating against defensive backs. While his hitting ability can definitely be a plus for whoever he ends up with, he needs to make sure that he stays under control and doesn’t end up hurting his team with costly penalties.

I currently have Pryor mocked to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round in my 2014 Mock Draft. While he’s more of a second-round player due to his lack of big-time experience, he’s without question the second-best safety in the draft. If another team feels that the position is a major need, he could definitely go on day one.

Positives

  • Ferocious hitter
  • Consistent, aggressive tackler
  • Effective when coming up to play in the box
  • Interchangeable between strong and free safety positions
  • Good projectable size
Negatives

  • Hasn’t been used much in man coverage, a skill he must have to succeed in a traditional free safety role
  • Doesn’t have a whole lot of experience playing against prime competition
  • His relentless hard hits may make him a target for fines or suspension in the NFL
2013 Performance

Pryor had a very effective 2013 season, finishing second on the Cardinals with 75 total tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss. He also had three interceptions, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles. His greatest impact, however, came from the immense amount of energy that he provided to the Louisville defense with his all-out play and magnificent hitting ability.

2014 Draft Projection: First round

Film watched: vs. Connecticut (2013), vs. UCF (2013), vs. Rutgers (2013), vs. Kentucky (2013), vs. Eastern Kentucky (2013)
