I'm curious if anyone has tried home recipes for dishwasher soap. I'm thinking of trying it. I only want to do it if it washes well and is less expensive than what I'm using: Cascade. I don't have any complaints about how well Cascade works. I use the gel soap, not the pods (not sure if they even have those). I did notice that Cascade cleans my tea mug better than the off-brand knockoffs. Can the home recipes clean as well as Cascade, but be cheaper? I'm going to find out. Here are a couple recipes I found on Youtube.

1.
enough for a mason jar of dishwasher soap
1 cup Borax (aka sodium tetraborae)
1/2 cup Epsom Salz (aka magnesium sulfate)
1 cup washing soda (Sodium carbonate)

optional:
1 - 2 tablespoons citric acid powder (promotes better rinsing)

variant:
lye (caustic soda) instead of washing soda

optional:
vinegar in the rinse bin

2.
enough for 1 wash:
3 tsp baking soda
4 drops Dawn (or other dishwashing liquid)
4 tablespoons distilled white vinegar (or enough to fill dish soap bin in dishwasher)

That's a risk to take on your dishwasher, but it's your dishwasher. Go to town.
