Honestly, defense alone should win this game

Is that a joke? Eli has been at times as much a turnover machine as anyone.

How many he have this season outside of the Philly game? Have you even noticed his numbers the last 2 years, since they switched offenses? He had a ****** game against the Eagles, other than that he's played the way you expect an above average QB to play. I guarantee he would have been good enough to win the starting job in Buffalo.

Our defense was average today. We need our defense to be dominant - take over games. Their defense produced 3 turnovers and 1 TD, ours O. Their defense allowed 5.7 yards per rush, ours allowed 5.3 yards per rush. Not saying our defense was bad. It was just OK, which isn't good enough right now.

I agree we haven't forced enough turnovers - well, zero is clearly not enough. What sucks is that they are so close at times like the bounce interception today by Jones. But the ball isn't coming out our way, or if it does and hits a DB in the chest he drops it. It's right there and we lose it by bounce, or penalty or plain ineptitude. It's so frustrating.

It's a joke. We're dead-last in the NFL with 3 all season, and those all came in the Philly game. That's as big a reason for this losing streak as anything else.

Other teams steal wins with their backups, but not us. And that's because every single point we score, we earn the hard way: driving from our own territory. The old adage is that the backup "just has to not lose the game." That philosophy only works when other units step up and make plays.

Not having Romo sucks. But not having a D that makes ANY plays has been just as problematic.

they did their job

Our D didn't do a good enough job. They didn't get enough pressure on Eli and got gashed on several plays runs and passes. Both RoMac and Hardy got run over a couple of times. The Giants put up 132 yards on the ground. Rueben Randle made a couple of big plays in the passing game the Cowboys D was far from perfect.

Winning games isn't always about how many points you give up it's about getting some turnovers giving your offense more and better opportunities to score. With the Cowboys QB situation they're not going to win any games if they don't start forcing some turnovers. We haven't seen the last of Cassel's turnovers so we better start forcing some.

Credit to the Giants for capitalizing on those turnovers they would have won them the game had they not botched it in the end. Might not be easy having no turnovers with Cassel who has a propensity for turnovers. With him being thrown in after only 5 weeks with the team it's anyone's guess what we'll get with him. Without Romo and the Cowboys forced to go with a journeymen QB that puts them at a disadvantage.

You were right !!!

Thru 7 games 40.9% of our opponents drives have resulted in a score (26th in the league) while only 4.5% have ended in a turnover (dead last). That's not an "average" defense.

Ouch, good point. I checked to see if yesterday was any better on those stats, and unfortunately they were pretty much the same. One reason it looked yesterday like we held their offense down is because their offense only had the ball for 8 drives. Here's how those 8 drives went:

3 of 8 Giant's drives resulted in a score - 38%
1 drive was a 3 and out (Hardy sack)
1 drive was a 4 and out
0 Turnovers

People have said Marinelli's defense is "bend don't break" and create turnovers. That explains the low number of 3 and outs. Without intense pressure on the QB and subsequently no turnovers, this defense becomes very average, even slightly below average. Without Romo and Dez, we can't win unless this defense improves dramatically.
