The good folks from Showtime's Inside The NFL sent this by special delivery and I pass it on for it is better to give than receive (except at the start of NFL overtime periods.)

On tonight's show insider Michael Lombardi anoints Jason Garrett the leading candidate for the vacant Detroit Lions job because is "the guy they think can turn their franchise around."

That prompts Cris Collinsworth to ask: if the Cowboys have lost faith in Garrett.

Responds Lombardi: "You know, I think there's a lot of truth to that."

That leads to a discussion of who the Lions will take with the first pick in the draft.

LOMBARDI: "Well, as you guys know, the Lions need a quarterback desperately. And I think Sam Bradford, the young man from Oklahoma who's going to play (Thursday)... who's a sophomore, a red shirt sophomore, so he's eligible for the draft. He can come out. He's going to declare and come out. And I think that now makes Detroit a very attractive job. And I think what Sam Bradford did... he's made a decision. "How much better can I be going back to college or coming out in the draft?" I mean, what would you do?"

COLLINSWORTH: "Are you saying that he's definitely coming out because I had not heard that?"

LOMBARDI: "He's done all the research. He's made all the phone calls. Assuming things go well in the game--knock on wood nothing happens.... I think he has done all the research, he knows--Matt Stafford from Georgia is also coming out--this is the time to come out because certainly, there's nothing he can benefit from by going back to Oklahoma."

I don't understand why he would even consider leaving for the Lions job.

He knows he's been exposed?

I mean really. If he throws up another clunker in Dallas, he is FINISHED. This is the last time you'll hear about Jason Garrett being a hot prospect if he comes back to Dallas and fails.

I would hate to see him go, but I hope he gets it. This place will be a circus if he does.

who knows what private conversations Jerry and Jason have but assuming they haven't sat down with each other and ironed out what went wrong in 08, you'd have to feel that Jason is aware of how he is being perceived in Dallas right now. He may no longer be the "Head Coach of the Future" and he may feel he better take his shot elsewhere.

Because another year like last and he has NO shot at any job.

Win two games in Detroit and he's back to being a genius.:D

Calm down Hos, nothing has happened yet.
The speculation is torture. The giddiness by some fans perplexes me.

The Lions job is actually a pretty good one. The owner leaves you alone and lets you do your thing and it's one of the better frannies in the league. I'd much rather go to the Lions than a team like the Raiders.

Gotta wonder how many really want the Lions job. Garrett has lost a lot of luster this year and for him to be the leading candidate tells us one of two things: no one any good really wants the job or whoever is doing it at the Lions is as dumb as Matt Millen.

Dang Lions and Broncos are going to piss me off.

Let him go. I want Shanahan, lol! That's nice Garrett was a peace maker in the locker roo but Shanahan is a but breaker. That's what's needed here. Aikman is right, we need a HC who can control the room first and foremost.

Mosley even suggested that today on the radio.

Jerry will find a new OC instead of a new HC, sending the fans into deeper despair--if that's even possible.
