Police are looking for the person who took an HFD ambulance on a short joyride Wednesday before dumping it a short distance away on a side road in southeast Houston.
The ambulance was stolen about 5:30 p.m. while Houston Fire Department paramedics were on duty at a Family Dollar store on Sampson near Navigation, officials said.
Minutes later, Houston police officers spotted the missing ambulance, its lights still flashing, along the 3400 block of Commerce at York, police said.
Officers took prints from the driver’s side door in hopes of tracking down the thief. It still wasn’t clear today how the person managed to steal the ambulance, police said.
