As the coaching carousel continues to spin, it seems Tom Herman will rest comfortably in Houston for at least one more season. Herman reportedly has an agreement in principle on a new contract to remain the head coach of the Houston Cougars.

We’ve agreed in principle is the best way to put it,” Herman said Monday during a press conference. “We’re working out the details.”

It was previously reported Houston had approved a significant pay raise for the first-year head coach, going up to $3 million with the reworked contract and making it a financial incentive to stay put as job offers flowed in. The push to make Herman the highest-paid coach in the Group of Five, passing Cincinnati’s Tommy Tuberville ($2.2 million). With a solid foundation for future success, at least in the American Athletic Conference and Group of Five picture, Houston’s financial commitment to Herman is a sign the program is ready and able to work as close to a power conference program as possible.

This might...MIGHT...again MIGHT...add some weight to a rumor I have heard in the last week.

Prior to this last week it was said the UH was NOT in consideration for the Big 12 addition if/when they decided to expand.

There were reports of BYU, Cincy, Memphis as some of the top teams but word kept saying that Houston was a no go.

However the last rumor I heard was that both BYU and Memphis have been told that they are out of the running if the Big 12 expands and that Cincy and UH are the top two candidates.

I have said, or speculated, that if Memphis thought they would get in, they would have enough money to keep Fuentes (they still might have had enough money but not viable in the league without a big pay jump that the big 12 would get).

So now that we know UH has plenty of money to keep the coach but I imagine they would not pay him more than other schools could unless they really believe they will be bringing in more football money in the near future.

Of course this does not make it true. However I really did find it shocking when the last rumor (or runor as we call them among WVU fans) that UH went from no way in hades to now being one of the top two contenders. But Feuntes letting their coach go and Herman staying on...does make you go hmmmm a little.

I thought for sure he was going to Georgia

I thought for sure he would be gone to another school...Plenty of schools out there that could pay more and put his name out there more.

Now he could just be a really good guy that is really loyal to that team or maybe he has ties in houston (family) that he does not want to leave.

But I also wonder if the scenario above has some merit where he has been told they will be joining the big 12 and that would be more exposure for him, the team, more money
for the school/team which means it could be more for him.

Again...could be nothing related at all. But it does make take notice.

I think he's hoping that the Texas job will eventually be available down the road. A lot of pressure on Charlie Strong next year...

Cincy would be a good match for WVU

Sumlin got annual raises for three years before jumping ship to A&M. I'm glad he's staying, but I'm a bit cynical about these things. So I expect him to stay a couple more years get a couple more solid recruiting classes and then jump. Can't build a good resume with one and done seasons. Gotta show he can do it again next year.

He may actually be right Woodrow. I hear a lot of people from Texas (Boosters) are really in love with him. May never happen but I understand where the rumors are coming from.

Understandable, but I've been seeing these kind of posts before UH began making their run this year. All while downing UH. I'd like to enjoy our little bit of success before folks try to swipe him. Lol

I don't blame you. There are always rumors and with this guy, there seems to be no shortage. He may never go anywhere.
