Gruden just seems like too much of a snake, but maybe he's the right guy to manipulate Jerry into thinking Gruden's ideas are Jerry's ideas?

Whether "Gruden's ideas" are any good or not is up for debate.

I don't know. The old man may finally be done for. It happens to everyone at some point. Landry, etc.

No more retreads!

Really? I guess good coaches are growing on trees. Dallas would have been lucky to have a retread like Reid . I guess you don't want a proven coach. Jerry can look to the college ranks I guess.?About one out of fifty of those works out.

Monte may be struggling here but the guy is one of the best defensive minds to ever coach. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater

Even the great Tom Landry had the game pass him by. Is Kiffin an exception?

If Jerry Jones were to step down and hire a Ron Wolf or a Mike Holmgren as GM, who both know Jerry very well, there would be a lineup of coaches around the block looking for the HC job in Dallas. Including Cowher, I would wager

But because Jerry won't step down, the HC options become very limited.

So for those looking for major changes in how things are run in Dallas, don't hold your breath.

You can tell from the media quotes that Kiffin and/or Jerry and Jason are butting heads over coverage schemes, man vs. zone, etc. Failing to adjust to Calvin Johnson was a complete head scratcher.

.

this post sums it up perfectly.
There is a huge difference between being head coach of the cowboys with a football guy in charge and being head coach of the cowboys with jerry jones involved in everything.

I honestly don't see Jimmy Johnson ever coming back here, but I think both Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones would bring back the magic if they teamed up again.

You call it magic I call it a black eye or broken nose when they come out from behind closed doors.

Reid is not a retread. He was never out of the league.

TV guys would be retreads.

I fail to see what Cowher would bring to the table that makes people think he would have any more success here than JG.

He was unemployed for a couple of days after being fired. Close enough. I don't think a TV job is the determining factor.

There's got to be at least 1 GREAT coach out there who could win despite Jerry. Just one.

If he could bring Wisenhunt and Lebeau with him, then I'm all for it.

Actually, hiring Whisenhunt as the next head coach would be a great move, IMO. Built a winner in Arizona, has a proven track record of turning struggling QB's around (Warner, Rivers with SD this year). Tough, no nonsense guy with experience and connections throughout the league.

We could do much, much worse.

I asked ought there would you really want and no one answered.

I don't think you can get him due to contract but Ron Rivera seems like a good coach. Don't know him really well but I like his team.

College wise I'd look at Art Briles, the current darling Sumlin, Graham, Morris, Malzahn, Meyer, Gundy.
