How about you can draft a player as a freshman or sophomore but they don't play for you until 4 year

So, something like the NHL/MLB?

Doubt any team would want to take a risk on drafting a freshman/soph and wait to see how they develop with their college.

How does it help the CTE issue? Will players sit out more games, or go out of bounce in the NCAA to avoid hits, cause they got drafted/paid?
Players get paid for all of their football playing that happens right after high school. So they can retire a little younger since their earnings start whenever they entered the draft.

I doubt a team wants to take up cap space for a guy who:
1. won't be on the roster for several years.
2. Who may not even pan out to be a NFL player

More than likely players won't retire sooner cause of getting money while they are 18/19. I would bet they would be as broke as the guys who enter at 21-24 cause they blow their money on even more frivolous **** while in college.

THEN THEY DONT HAVE TO.

that would be their choice this is America. Many kids would prefer to be drafted asap. Earn a salary for their practice time. And support their family.

Didn't they have to stop making NCAA football games Bc the players weren't getting paid for their likeness ?

Nah the system is fine. Why pay people for their work and keep kids in school and make the draft more interesting and give NFL fans a reason to watch the NCAA more

I like the thinking outside the box. I like the creativity of the topic. However I feel you would create a situation where freshmen have to get playing time instantly. Even when not deserved. Sometimes "holding a school hostage" for their services. I believe a lot of that exists now, with kids going to schools outside "their dream school" due to playing time promised.

Not necessarily imo. Bc like I said you can choose to enter the draft at any year of eligibility you want. Some guys wouldn't want to enter it as a fresh or soph if it means they'll be picked low and make less.

So really this is just about freedom of choice. The players can start earning right away if they're barely interested in school (many players being "students" is a farce already). And the teams don't have to pick them if they don't want to assume the risk. The cowboys drafted jaylon without a guarantee he would play Bc it could pay off tremendously. It actually injects more strategy and intrigue into the draft . And gets more eyeballs onto the NCAA.

Yea no one gets hurt with this current system in which players get paid under the table and championships get vacated. Nah the system ain't broke why fix it lolol

Whether or not this is true is irrelevant. Currently, NFL teams aren't utilizing resources on players who have 3 more years of college play ahead of them. From the perspective of the NFL, why would any team want to do that?

The NCAA can have all the problems in the world. Why would any NFL team want to create more problems for NFL teams?

If the problem is that the NCAA is poorly constructed, fix the NCAA.

Why do teams trade 2nd round picks for future first round picks?

What about the scenario mentioned is problematic ? Everything is the same except player and team now have the option to go a different route.

Current system: player takes money and gifts to attend a school. Player doesn't go to class. Player works for free. Player doesn't graduate. Team vacates win and coach gets fired.

New system: player takes money from employer (NFL) to keep working at his craft and developing maturely. NCAA doesn't get disbanded for being an illegal organization which it probably is and probably will be.

I did think of one flaw but this is the only one mentioned so far. It creates a dynamic in which an NFL team may want input into what kind of development the player is getting with his college team. In terms of play style or reps. Maybe it would be alleviated by letting them participate in some mini camps and putting in anti tampering rules

I'd be willing to try it. Let's make it happen.
