How can a team be look so flat and unprepared when you have a home game on Monday night with the division lead on the line? I don't get it at all. It has been a Parcells' trademark his whole career to get a lead early then ride it all the way to the end. What has been happening this season? To me it's not a Bledsoe vs Romo thing. Neither of them was playing defense when the Giants jumped on us and scored in the first 2 minutes. I can't seem to find a way to blame it on TO either.
I have never seen BP abandon the run after only 2 minutes of the first quarter has passed. How can a single quick score take us completely out of our strength? This team has been running well this season but last night BP hung this game on Bledsoe's arm and it cost us. When you begin to play in panic mode with 12 minutes left in the first quarter and you are only behind by 7 points, the other team feeds off of that.
So how does this happen? The Giants are BP's former team. Not only is this an important game from the standings but it had to be personal with BP. Did the coaching staff really think that any pass play that left Strahan unblocked could have a chance at success? Did they really think that Arrington was done for and didn't need to be accounted for in blitz pickup or was it a mistake by the o-line? How does Roy Willams get juked out of his shoes by Shockey? Why did Watkins stand by and watch Burress catch the first TD without even trying to go for that jump ball? Did he suddenly forget that 42 inch vertical leaping ability? What happened for Crayton to miss play that punt that led to the safety?
I know these guys are pros. They shouldn't need much in the way of pumping up for a big game. If a player can't see how important this game was coming in, how can he get himself up for the rest of the season? This isn't the first time we have come out like this. Remember that even the Texans led us at halftime. We have been jumped on regularly right out of the box.
I don't mean to sound like I am giving up on the season because I am not. We all knew looking at the schedule that the first half was going to be tough. There are 10 games left to be played but we could be 3-6 after this coming road trip unless we can shake this bad habit of coming out flat. You can't get behind early on the road and expect to win with any kind of consistancy. Heck, you can't get away with this mess at home very often, either.
I have to hand it to the Giants that two times we started to gain some momentum but they were able to come up with the plays needed to slap us back down. We were out coached and out played at every turn last night. And if we can't figure out how to take control of games early, we will see a lot more of this the rest of the season.
Thanks for reading this rambling rant. I needed to get this off my chest before the whole day was ruined.
