As I posted before on Roy threads, Roy is a victim of his early success. His coverage skills used to be way above the average SS. He can't do what he used to anymore and I don't think there are any SS in the league who can. So because he isn't as great as he used to be, everybody thinks he sucks which is not true.

Elaborate? Do you mean rule changes? or?

I live here in Pgh. Troy Polamalu is getting ripped on talk radio by the fans and media. They say he has to stop freelancing and just play off the line like a normal safety does.

If a safety could cover, he would be a cornerback (more money to be made there). When a CB loses a step, he moves to safety. Hint: safeties don't cover as well as CBs. But safeties hit harder and play the run better. Just a fact of football life. Deal with it.

Because he gets burned for more big plays then he should and far to often. No he is not responsible for every catch no one in their right mind should. Funny we get yelled out because how do we know the reads he covers fine he plays fine. While how do you know he is doing well at his assignments do you know what coverage was called if people that think Roy is bad in coverage can not than the other crowd is talking out there collective arse as well.

See that is the problem the argument goes both ways and no one is on the staff and we do not have all the film like teams do. We can break down the limited camera angles we get on tv and that is it. Heck I seen people argue over who is suppose to cover what. Even argue with what Troy called a former QB who use to carve up those same type of defenses on the way to SB a loser who knows nothing. So we can not even get consensus on coverage for the pro and con group.

When we do that we are doing what other teams do watch film and look for what we think is going on an educated guess.

So who is right and who is wrong depends on what you think no matter what people call people or tell them they do not know what they are talking about you are not changing either sides mind. I find it quite telling that the coaches are pulling Roy from the game in 3rd and long the last few games.

Now on Roy's tackling I thought early in the year he was going for the big hit and whiffed on a bunch of tackles he should have been making. The last few weeks he has started to wrap up more which is great I have not seen him whiff like early in the year when he was going for the hits instead of the tackle so i think he has cleaned that part of his game up.

I thought on this I think several factors have hurt Roy over the years. I tried to figure out his drop off from years past and this is what I have come up with.

1st Factor losing Woody I think hurt a lot

2nd factor the 5 yard chuck rule he can not be as physical as he use to be which is causing a change in the ss role in todays NFKL game (imo) it seems like you almost need to FS now days.

3rd factor the defenseless wr rule has really hurt Roy if nothing else Roy caused a lot of dropped pass by wr because of the big hits from wr over the middle. Now the wr are a little more protected and a lot of wr no longer get alligator arms in Dallas like years past.

So I think the rules changes have hurt Roy more than any player on this team (but that is my opinion)

Because teams purposely design their offense to attack the weakest spot on our team, Roy Williams in coverage.

It's amazing how they completely ignore that "weakest spot" most of the time, especially when they desperately need to score.

Like I have said before, some of you guys want to make a big deal about team trying to exploit Roy, but you don't say a word about teams getting Ellis in coverage, or running directly at great pass rushers like Freeney. Teams always try to find something to attack...

The fact that Dallas is winning, and that teams are not lighting the Cowboys up for 30 a game like last year ought to be a pretty good sign that Roy and others are playing pretty well.

No one in this league is perfect, and no one is saying Roy is. But comparing Roy to others who play his position, I think you'll find he measures up very well.
