How come no one is talking about the obvious intent to injure Romo?

This is the NFL. If you touch the ball, you will get hit and there was nothing wrong with that hit. Romo and other quarterbacks get hit like that every game. Unfortunately, Romo was just at the wrong angle when he hit the ground. It was the weight of the tackler and the angle of Romo's shoulder that caused the break, not the hit.

Exactly this. The 300 lb linemen smothering Romo in a bad position did it.

IMO seemed like "normal" hard tackle on a QB if you come in free from any blocks. It was Tony landing on his left side that brought the injury. That Philly line gives this Oline fits and did last year as well. Cox and Logan are extremely talented players.

I agree to some degree. It wasn't necessarily a dirty play, but it seemed clear to me that the intent was for the defender to land with all his bodyweight on Tony. That's not a punishable offense, however.

How come no one is talking about the obvious intent to drive Romo in the ground shoulder first by the defender? It wasn't as obvious as the last time the Giants defender did it but same style a pile drive with the goal of using the ground and their body to inflict injury. I thought the NFL was for protecting QBs.

Because this is football and that's what everyone does when they get a chance to hit the QB.

Besides, there was nothing illegal about the hit.

Have some cheese with that whine.

Nods, Michael Boley did the same thing when he broke Romo's clavicle in 2010.

The defender did drive Romo into the ground, but he did it legally in the course of the tackle. If he had picked him up and drove him into the ground, it would have been a penalty. Having lost the ball and tried to recover it, Romo was unfortunately in a poor position to protect himself from being flattened by a 300-pound man.

I've always said "You deserve what you get if you don't try and change it.". I know that, technically, Romo is the recipient of the damage but the reality is that Jones doesn't b**** about any wrongs perpetrated against the Cowboys, whether it's intent to harm to blatant biased officiating. He doesn't say anything and therefore, the team will keep getting screwed.

how do you know he doesn't? seems to me i hear the cowboys file complaints with the NFL a lot but they don't publicize them like other teams do.

some people just expect to be screwed and damn reality, will not be let down.

That Philthy player made no attempt to absorb any of his weight. In fact, he deliberately held his arms off the ground so that Romo had to absorb all of the defenders weight on whatever part of him hit the ground. That is the very definition of "intent to harm".

How come no one is talking about why he had to pump fake instead of letting the ball go? I suspect Brice or Whitehead weren't where they were supposed to be.

watching the play, I thought the defensive player actually turned Romo while he was tackling him to drive his shoulder into the gournd. And I do think that was intentional to inflict as much pain as he could. But, there was nothing wrong with that. I wish the league would suspend players for the same length of time an injured player is out if it is a dirty play. That looked dirty to me but it was not outside the rules.

I did, and that was dirty. All night long you saw them changing contact points to stick fingers in facemasks, giving an extra twist, stepping on helmets, late hits, and .... driving the player into the ground. Dirty is dirty whether it happens all the time or not.

The Giants one back in 2010 for sure had intent, but I didn't see it as much here. Seemed like just an aggressive follow through on a legal tackle.

BTW, early in the game Doug Free missed blocks were on the edge of getting Romo hurt.
Was that by chance another Doug Free screw-up?
Honest question, as I haven't gone back to look.

I didn't see any intent other than to 'hurt' the QB. I didn't see an intent to 'injure' Romo, so I'm fine with it. That's why coaches teach defensive players to hit as hard as they can...to 'hurt' a player and possibly knock the ball loose. The intent to injure is very different than the intent to hurt. It was a good play by the Eagles and perfectly legal and clean.
