new england just finished 16-0, so how come there is no talk of raiding their staff? they get a bye just like the cowboys, thus make their coaches available for job interviews just like the cowboys coaches. forget about new england, both indianapolis and green bay have pretty decent records also, why no talk of their coaches getting a big time shot?

why is parcells so interested in jeff ireland, at least according the news reports, when his very own son in law is working in the same capacity in new england? given that they just finished 16-0, i would say the patriots front office is doing a very decent job in talent evaluation. why not make it a family reunion down in miami. does he not like working with family members? the giants head coach did not have problem drafting the guy who got his daughter pregnant before marriage.

it is not that i follow the cowboys more closely, so i did not pick up news about other teams potentially losing their assistants, but all the major websites are reporting the high level of interests in jason garrett, tony sprano, and jeff ireland. so, what gives?

Chances are teams including Maimi will be talking with members of the Pats staff.

I fell your pain. It is a little annoying that all the raiding talk is of our roster. Half the DC related stories are of our coaches possible demand in the market. The other half is on how we're in decline this month and are a prime candidate for an early playoff exit.

If we suck or at best are simply overrated, perhaps teams could stay away from our sucky coaches.

On a side note I believe the NFL should adopt a new rule on coaching movement. They could call it the Garrett Rule:

When a coach excepts a job with a new team. He can not leave that job while under contract, even for a promotion, for at least two years.
If the job he excepted was itself a promotion. I.E. first time postion coach, first time coordinator, or first time head coach, he can not leave, even for another promotion for three years.

This is simple logic here. Any hire an owner makes should be committed for at least two years regardless. This coach was "availible" for the hire for some reason. He was either unemployed at the NFL level or about to be. So if he and the team has tremendous success in the first year of his employ, that franchise should not have to refill the position after just one year.

Garrett's situation is even more aggregious. When a franchise hires a first time position coach, first time coordinator, or first time head coach, that franchise is assuming a significant amount of risk. That franchise should not be penalized for its forsight and excellent judgement by losing that new hire after just one year of service. The team should reap the benefits for this "good decision" for at least three years.

Well it is because we obviously suck and won't make it to the super bowl. It is because those coaches lead this team to doom. We all know the Dolphins and Atlanta don't want to win. What better way to guaranty failure than hiring a Cowboys coach.

Umm, because the Cowboys are winning and because Parcells is looting his own staff?

This Garrett talk really PMO. Now I know we havent lost him yet, but if we do I'll be furious!
This was no ordinary hire. It was loaded with risk for multiple reasons.
First off, Garrett was only a position coach for two years. I dont know the average length of prior service for new coordinators, but I'm sure its much longer than two fricking years.
The second issue I have here is with the timing of the hire. Jones was given a small window to decide on Garrett. He had to hire him before a HC was hired. Jones had to now deal with the possibility of the best HC candidate not going along with the Garrett hire. This could have limited his options for sure.
Either way a whole lot of eggs were placed in the Jason Garrett basket. This was a big risk that has certainly paid off. Jerry Jones was right! Garrett is a great OC. Now its only fair that Jones reap the benefits of his forsight for at least three years.

BTW - Can anyone name a first year OC who received a HC offer at the end of that first season? Unfrickenbelievable!

I'm sure that isn't the case.

I expect that Mike Singletary, Josh McDaniels, Jim Caldwell, Winston Moss, and Gregg Williams -- among many many others are fielding a ton of calls this morning.

Actually, I hear he is a very hot commodity. I think he'll be a HC by end of the season.
