How comfortable are you with Showers as the backup?

They'll get one get, but it won't be anyone we would be comfortable with starting either.

Shower's is nothing more than Practice squad material, Dallas will have to go get a veteran via a trade or cuts

The problem is that teams very rarely cut QB's who are capable backups. I'm not pretending to know who will or won't be cut, but I doubt there will be anyone worthwhile. I also really hope we don't give up any picks higher than a 6th, no one we can trade a 6th for is going to save a season. I think we might end up looking into the garbage bin that is already available honestly. Vick, Freeman, Yates, Flynn, Lindley....someone like that

Not at all. Let's hope RGIII continues to be the #1 guy for the Browns which will keep Austin Davis as the odd man out in the 4QB situation (RG3, McCown, Kessler?, and Davis). He's the guy I wanted as QB2 going into the 2015 season.

I think we need to sign 1 if not 2 vet QB's as soon as the cuts happen around the league. I personally feel that Showers isn't a NFL QB. jmo

I was sure he'd be a PS player before Romo's injury announcement. Need to sign another QB because Dak is likely to play only a series or two be season opener. Showers is likely playing entirety of last preseason game against Texans. Needs to get into big time Missouri mode to make final roster.

Maybe consider sending out bat signal to Brett Favre. :D

In a word - not.
I will be supprised if Dak does not regress when the real bullets start flying as well.
So much for the "let him sit and learn behind Romo, for a year or 2"...

Might as well see what these guys can do in a real game before we determine our next move. I don't want to waste any more picks on guys who won't win us any games like we did last year. Moore is coming back as well, isn't he?

Definitely not. Bring in someone for cheap. I mean, if it gets to the point where we are starting a 3rd stringer this season, it's over anyways. No sense giving up any draft picks for some vet like McCown. But Showers has looked awful so far.

They'll probably get a vet and keep Showers on the 53 until the vet learns our offense.

I think it would be smart to bring in someone now while we still have 2 weeks to prepare. Who?? I have NO clue!

Not comfortable at all with Showers at backup he hasn't impressed. He's looked like a scrub, no better than the other young QBs we brought in the past few years. I would expect us to be on the lookout for a veteran.

How good are you suppose to look with the backups though?

I'm not. Showers is a player that is good for a change of pace in the middle of a game, but he's not a backup or potential starter in my opinion. I like the young man and his desire, but not the talent level he's shown. We need a vet to come in and be a backup. Next year we need to draft another QB in the mid rounds again to get this team in a position to have youth and depth.

Now, he's a question. What if Dak doesn't overcome the scouting reports? I hope he does, but what if the league figures him out and he can't overcome it?

Granted he got the raw end of the deal playing with scrubs but that's what he's earned in practice. He can only be judged by what we've seen and he hasn't looked good. We've seen nothing that would make the team want to go with him as the backup.
