I see a lot of people saying they became Cowboy fans because their Dads were Cowboys fans, or that they were born into it.

My Dad must be sorely disappointed in me. He and all of the rest of my family are Steeler fans.

I became a Cowboys fan after I saw Chuck Howley on TV with that gorgeous Blue Star on his helmet, .. because I had met him in person after a WVU Mountaineer game in Morgantown before that.

But I was the only family member wise enough to select the Cowboys.

My dad was/is a huge fan. He grew up during the Staubach/Danny White era. I first started watchin in the 92 season (i was 6), and have been a huge fan ever since. Troy was his favorite Cowboy player during that era and mine was michael irvin (to this day hes my favorite cowboy). I love this team and will make sure my son is a huge fan as well.

Born into it, my moms family is from Texas. During the triplets I was 7 - 11 years old and I remember thinking wow the Cowboys go to Superbowl every year. Little did i know what I was in store for.

Good luck with that, .. especially the way we lose now. Kids want to follow winners, .. they don't know loyalties at a young age.

I almost lost my two boys in the late 80's to the 9'ers (Montana) and the Broncos (Elway).

And then came the early 90's, and they were hooked forever.

Don't always just assume that your son will like the Cowboys, just because you do.

When they are with friends at school, they want to follow winners.

Every time I'm in DC on business, I love to listen to local sports talk radio there. It's more about hating Dallas than it is supporting the Commanders. They hate that there are TONS of people like you there that are Cowboys fans.

Its a hatred of jealousy, based in the realization that no matter what they do they will ALWAYS be nothing more than 2nd fiddle to us even during their best times. Its a 24/7/365 obsession with us and there is no relief for them. To them, we are like the fire that will never be quenched where the worm does not die!

Well my dad was a fan and so my my grandma so my dad and my grandma his MIL would watch the thanksgiving day games together during the 80's. But how he became a fan is what set me up to be a fan. See dad is from Union City New Jersey and all his friend and brothers/sister were all giants fans. During the late 60's he was watching a game and he said the star caught his eye and became a fan while taking grief from friends and family. He moved out to CA in the 70's met my mother and had me. We use to fly to Dallas to see games when I was a kid. My father even bought a house in Valley Ranch off Meredith ct in the 90's just to be closer to the team. Good memories for me.

I was 7 and my mom went to the SB vs. Denver and brought me back a pennant. I watched it on tv hoping to see her. I grew up in the St. Louis area and the Cardinals were always blacked out, so the Cowboys were always on CBS. Got hooked and have stayed a fan since then, I'm now 43. TD was my favorite as a kid.

Folks have commented on young kids and I see that with mine. He is 11 and as hard as I try, he doesn't want to follow them. He has about 8 or 9 buddies and none are Cowboy fans. They range from Panthers (we live in NC), to Packers, Seahawks, 49ers, Pats and Steeler fans. They all say the same thing, "Cowboys never win anything".

That would be me.

It is just a natural thing for kids to be drawn to winners.

I have a friend, .. a boy that I have known since he was in Little League, .. he is now a Sr. in high school. He is a Cowboys fan because his Dad is, .. so we have always talked about the Cowboys.

When I see him, .. I always bow to him, because he is a fan but has never seen Dallas win ANYTHING! I tell him he is "the best" fan because he remains loyal even though he has never experienced winning, ... ever!

I became a NFL fan because my mom threw Super Bowl parties...and she was a huge Cowboys fan. I became a Cowboys fan because of Tony Dorsett.

That said, pretty much my whole family are Cowboys fans. Only a few holdouts, but we ignore them.

When Daddy abandoned me at that mining town, i wandered the streets. Those were lean and mean times. No sirie, no clever bon mots or sly references from me in those times! But to get back to my story: I looked into a pool hall and they had the TV on and Danny white was QB. (If I half not mentioned it, Danny White was like Romo of today, except Danny was more charismatic, worked for a LOT less, and actually was successful in playoff games, unlike you-know-Wromoho.)
Anywhey, I started watching and the team did the "hitch" before the snap and I was intrigued. The uniforms, the cheerleaders, the stoic coach Landry, the fire-breathing Stautner and all them other good coaches and the D and the offense . . . man, what a great show.
So when I left that pool hall, 75 cents poorer, I decided to dedicate half my life to the Cowboys. I half never regreted it. It has kept me largely out of trouble.

November. 1975. Dallas hosting Philly. I believe the game was in the second quarter when I turned on the television.

My level of devotion came from my father. He was a true New Orleans fan. They flustered the heck out of that man, but nary a word or action escaped him suggesting his loyalty ever wavered. No amount of money buys faithfulness like that. I really wished he had lived long enough to see them win it all. That would have been something...

Originally from Mississippi but dad moved the fam to Memphis, TN when I was in 2nd grade in '72. While growing up I remember visiting relatives in Mobile, AL in '75 when Roger hit Drew on the Hail Mary as I was 10 at the time and had developed my interest in football and right there a fan was born.

To add to this story but keeping a long story short, in Memphis TN in the 70's, CBS showed the Cowboys on NFL today with Brent, Irv, Phyllis and Jimmy the Greek. They had the 'Boys every week. The AFC telecast had the Steelers every week. There's a nice percentage of late 30's to early 50's age people from Memphis that chose either Dallas or Pitt for this reason and many continue to root for these 2 teams to this day.

Younger generation Memphis folks may have changed allegiance to the Titans once they made it to Nashville but not me. Roger was my man, and I loved that star!

Never watched football a day in my life, was 6-7 years old. Was over my boys house after church on sunday. Him and his family rushed hom from church, talking about a game. I was like whatever, so I sat down, he turned on the game, it was the cowboys. That's all they talked about....I watched the whole game(Barely understood), and fell in love with the team.

Been watching them ever since.

The violence drew me to football but I think the fedora and the star drew me to the Cowboys. It was a long time ago when you played football on one of these
