Someone posted a thread earlier today regarding the DMN forum, and got me thinking? How did you come across MBs, especially on the Cowboys?

I used to regularly browse ESPN, bought Insider and eventually found my way into the message board. After establishing myself as a reputable poster (and not the normal troll, >cough<JustaEverydayRedneck>cough<), I received an email to join a new, budding forum (Dallas Cowboys Central).

That was last offseason, probably right at a year ago. I joined while the board was still young, became a top 10 poster (I was trying to beat out the top three, who at the time were Boozeman, SBK and Midswat). There was a little bit of a 'disagreement' and I was banned (not banned anymore). But I had slowly started to lurk over here. When it required that I sign up, I did.

I then started posting slowly at first, and have now picked it up as of late. In about 3 months less the time, I have already met my old post count from that site.

Note - I have no plans to get banned here (didn't there, but it was a setup I tell you!). Also, my SN/Avatar were different, so don't try to remember me.

How about you? How did you become a message board aficianado/respected member of Cowboyszone.com?

I got into a hip hop board. Then i was on ESPN board for a minute, that place sucked, so i just stopped posting there. I went to DCC.com, some dude called me out, I have a temper problem, especialyl when I post at a board and some "vet" needs to call me out cuz I'm a "rookie attention *****". Well I guess they didnt take it so well when I offered that the guy could perform some good ole felatio on me...

Started out just checking out sports sites....used to visit one called sportstalk.com and then joined that message board.
Well that got shut down as ESPN bought the rights to that site because it was really hitting with some good rumors on the main site. That site would later come back as the daily turd aka profootballtalk.com. At one time it was a very good site but now it has become a parody of it's older self.

From there I moved to the DMN board, talk about lawless, no mods , no structure and after awhile it kept getting worse...then DMN decided to make the forum page a huge ad and made the actual posting section so small that it was not worth the hassle of that and no moderation and flat out posters that just had no rules.

So finally I moved here and have been happy ever since then. :)

I stumbled on the forums at DMN, joined up and have been addicted to them ever since.

BrainPaint, I'd like to specifically address something that you said................ "From there I moved to the DMN board, talk about lawless, no mods , no structure and after awhile it kept getting worse...then DMN decided to make the forum page a huge ad and made the actual posting section so small that it was not worth the hassle of that and no moderation and flat out posters that just had no rules.

I wasn't on DMN in the early days, and I've heard stories of death threats and just total anarchy on it. And I suppose that if your just there to talk Cowboys and Football, then that kinda stuff could ruin a forum. I like this forum because of the structure and the rules. The rules are fair and just and very easy to get along.

BUT.........

I am a memeber of a forum where ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING (legal) goes. I go there as a type of a release. I think that we all have a bit of a wild side, and to have a forum where you can literally say anything you want to, to me, is a bit cathardic.

You have to be real thick skinned to take part in such a forum.

Guess i just got lucky. this is the first message board i've ever been a member on, actually its only the second one ive ever even tried to access, found it this march while looking for updates on the net about who the cowboys might go after in free agency. i think i typed in something like dallas cowboys news or free agency report and this link popped up. i was just going to read a little but found out you had to join to read the reports/posts, so i joined. I remember brain paint had to explain to me what an avatar was and helped me set mine up(thanks again BP), maybe one of these days i'll figure out how to get a link from another site and post it here on this one, WG will always beat me anyway LOL. But anyway, now im addicted to this message board, love it here. mods you do a great job, and lots of good people posting here. glad i found it.

Yes the DMN was pretty bad at one time.

I don't mind a release now and then...but full time it gets old real fast and most of the time the site suffers from it because many good posters don't want to be a part of something that more often then not turns into juvenile testosterone contests.

I used to go to a rant forum that let you pretty much say what you want and it was fun for a little while but got old....most of the football talk suffered, the site did not grow much and more often then not the main focus of the site seemed to be trashing two or three trolls on a regular basis instead of banning them or acting like adults.

Sad thing is I liked many members on that forum but after asking for a chance and then realizing there would be none to the same old silly chaos I stepped down from a mod position....maybe it is me just getting older or just tired of some of that stuff but it is just not for me anymore. :)

Your welcome...and as far as posting a link to another site.....when you are on another site that you want to use.....go to the top address bar in your interenet browser.
Click on it with your mouse until it is all hi-lighted, then either right click and choose copy or when it is all hi-lighted then hit the ctrl button and while holding that button down hit the "c" button.

Then come to this site and when you go to make a post just hit the ctrl button and hit the "v" button or right click and choose paste.

Any other things you may have trouble with or want to learn please feel free to PM me or you can put in the support zone and someone will be sure to help.

I got into a message boards pretty much when the Texans came to town and the DMN decided to become a pay-site for their news. It really became hard to find Cowboys news, because the sports news was dominated by Texans talk and rightly so.

Anyway, I trolled the FWST board, never posted, cuz I never wanted to jump in the shark waters. And one of their posted posted a link from here and I came here and pretty much never left. What really intrigued me about this board honestly was observing the interaction between the male and female posters. There were some extremely knowledgeable women who were regular posters when I joined and they've had other obligations so they don't post as much. Latuna was pretty much the catalyst. She encouraged me to post more in a PM. And if you track my post history, I started out by just posting articles, but I never offered any comments. But without her and others like her, I prolly wouldn't have posted, at all. Too often I'm given a big attagirl when I say something sports-related that a "typical" female is not supposed to know. Annoying to say the least. Now you can't shut me up. :)

As for Hoov, I'm just quick on the post button. I've actually slowed down some cuz of work, so you should have plenty of opportunities. :)

I stumbled on to a Cowboys message board at The Sporting News site around 1998.

Some of the guys posting there at the time were Dale, TwoDeep, HotToddy, Jack, Reality, Wulfman .... Oh, and Art was on the Commanders site over there, along with Kevin the PRF.

Dale and TwoDeep were also posting at a site called SilverStar, so I followed them over there and met more longtime friends such as Carl, boozeman, p1, GatorGirl, ThaGame, etc.

From there, we all migrated to another site (forgot the name), then Reality started a new site and I was invited by him and Dale to be a moderator there. I did that for awhile, then just decided to post.

When that board split, I quit posting for awhile (again). I moderated over at DCC for a few months before leaving in November. I still visit over there and try to post here as much as I can.

I started visiting the TSN forums years ago (in 1999 I believe) which were probably using the worst forum software ever invented. Add to that the fact that at the time, there were NO moderators and it was pretty much a free-for-all forum site.

I met Dale, Chief and TwoDeep there and we tried to have some good football related discussions but were constantly harassed by users like Mr. Commander who I believed was Art based on posting styles. While there were a couple of sites like SilverStar, there really wasn't a great place to go to talk about the Cowboys without people insulting, flaming, etc.

Since I had already written the Mazevo software and it was being used by thousands of sites at the time so I decided to set up a Cowboys site. This was to be a private, invitation only site initially. In fact, we invited about 30-40 users and told everyone not to tell anyone about it because we didn't want all of the insults, personal attacks, and smack talk to flood our site. We stayed like that for over a year and it was a great place to get together and talk about the Cowboys. Eventually, word leaked out and the site (TheCowboys.net) got more and more popular.

In March of 2004, we decided to move away from Mazevo since I had abandonded development on it and switch to vBulletin. At the same time, we decided a name change (CowboysZone.com) was in order to better brand the site with Cowboys fans.

Now, here we are with a very popular Cowboys site that's fan and family friendly and one of the best resources for Cowboys news and information on the internet.

When the rumors broke about parcells coming to Dallas I immediately began looking for more info.

Found my way into the DMN........just read the forum for about 6wks finally got up the nerve to start a thread.

Being on a Cowboy forum is very habit forming.......almost as bad as smoking or eating popcorn....can't get enough of it.
