As is the case with most here, my enthusiasim is increasing.
I'm starting to project our starting line ups/ strenghts style
Most importantly how we match up with teams on the schedule.
I come bac to one team and one match up - eagles
Fact is, you have to beat the champs to be the champs. I'm starting to believe we can play with them and perhaps win.
Here's how I see it. I want other opinions.
What excites me the most is our D against there O:
Big picture, we're slightly undersized but quic.
They play more of a speed then a power game. 5-8 185 starting RB
Heavy pass to run mix. Not many two TE formations plays to try and line up and power us. If they go two TE, neither is that good, especially in blocing.
3-4 puts someone over C Fraley, a below average player. Historically this has given them the most trouble. Ferguson/ Glover tag team will dominate this matchup and give us a huge advantage in controlling the line of scrimage.
I see them abandoning the running game early.
I have faith in our ability to both rush McNabb and contain him. Ware, Burnett and Canty are a huge upgrade in speed and agility in our front seven.
Those 3 along with Roy will fare very well in this area.
I also favor our coverage matchups. Newman, Henry, Glenn should fare well against Owens, Lewis and Brown.
I believe we now have the oportunity to dominate this offense. Hold them to 17 or fewer points in both games giving us a chance to win either or god forbid ...BOTH
Our O against their D is the tough part of the matchup.
I do favor our Oline and two TE's against their front seven and this is where we have to win the game.
As good as thier D has been the last 5 years the run defense has been spotty. Jones needs to see 30 plus carries in both games.
Their secondary is just too good for Johnson, Glenn, Crayton and Witten.
I see our 3 best options as Jones right, Jones left and Jones up the middle.
If we do get Jones rolling, then we may have some play action opportunities.
We have faired well in picing up their blitz and in overall pass protection against them under Parcells.
Final Analysis: Two very tight, very low scoring games. A lot of three and outs. Field positon and special teams will be the difference. They have the advantage in passing game/McNabb. We have the advantage in balanced attac/running game/Jones. If Bledsoe gets overwelmed and forces throws we lose if not we win. In fact, I'd bet we won't loose to them in a game Bledsoe doesn't throw an interception.
