How do we motivate Roy Williams? Demote him like Crayton?

Ok, I think we all see that roy williams needs to step up his game, with catching the ball when the ball hits him in the hands. Enough of this Wade saying he catches big catches in practice, he hasnt done it in the game time situations.

Do you all remember when Patrick Crayton got demoted from WR position and punt returner. What happened. Crayton rededicated himself, look at himself hard, and stepped up his game. WE all saw the postive results, when Crayton made some big plays as a WR and later returned some big balls for TD's on punt returns, etc.

Ex Cowboy player All Pro Larry Brown said, the best way to motivate a player was to have more open competition, like sit roy down some and let Ogletree or Hurd get more playing time. This will either force Roy W... to step up his game and prove he is a good WR.

Look at it this way, as the number one WR, or number 2 WR which I think he is, if Roy Williams job isnt threatened, then why should he concern himself to concentrate more and work harder to make those big catches.

Your thoughts zoners?

I would not mind seeing Ogletree or Hurd getting a bit more playing time but I don't think the staff is going to throw up their hands and give up on RW. I highly doubt they are looking to bench him.

If it were me he'd be a rotational player for the rest of the year.

I am not saying give up on Roy. I am saying push roy by having other players take some time away from him. When you as a player start getting your playing time taken away by another player, either you step up and you step down.

So, challenge Roy.

100 bucks says we don't do anything. Sadly.

True, but if you can make the point to Jerry Jones, by telling him, look at what happened to Crayton when you demoted him. Crayton stepped up big time.

So, wouldnt it make sense Jerry Jones to push Roy W that way?

Sam Hurd ain't the answer buddy... I'd rather see Olgetree get more time on the field.

I like what i've been seeing from both, Crayton is the short-term answer as 2nd WR and put one of the others in the slot, and only bring Roy W. in when were in the redzone, he wrecks havoc on other teams in the redzone so utilize that.

As I said I don't have a problem with Hurd or Ogletree seeing a bit more time even if it cuts into RW time but in the end I trust this staff judgement more than any fan on this board, this staff has this group of men playing like a team.

He had 5 catches for 75 yards in Philly. As much as I hate the smiles he shows on his dropped passes, he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Hurd can get open so i'd give him an opportunity too.

Just rotate guys. It wont hurt a bit to do that.

Here's the problem with demoting Roy Williams. Who plays in his place?

Now the hue and cry will say Ogletree. But this kid has six catches and is not ready.

How do I know. The coaches who watch the kid in practice all week think so or they would give him more time in the game.

Now finding out what Ogletree can do well, and working him in for four or five plays to put him in a position to succeed is a good idea.

But sending Williams to the bench and starting Ogletree also takes on the rookie mistakes he will surely make. Because this is a different game than one he has played in the past.

And there are things skilled professionals - the vets in the league - will do to confuse him.

Ogletree is the grapes on the vine waiting to ripen and be picked.

As Orson Welles said, "We will sell no wine before it's time."

Now to Williams.

Garrett needs to target things he does well and put him in a position to succeed. That is what coaching is all about.

Go back to the routes he runs well, then exploit those. Get his sea legs under him again.

Build his confidence.

What fans think is unimportant.

I think the only answer is that they've got to rotate between Roy, Ogletree, and Hurd on an almost down by down basis. If you start taking some of the plays away from Roy then maybe, just maybe, the guy will focuss more and start trying to actually make plays on those that he is in there on.

Maybe.

I said last night we should start Crayton against Philly. Let Roy be the #3 WR for that game.

It's undeniable: Roy Williams has dropped a number of highly catchable passes, and his production does not currently warrant his price tag. I get this, and understand your frustration.

However, his seven touchdowns rank second on the team. For all his faults, he's been a reliable receiver in the red zone. A team isn't going to bench that type of scoring production.
