How do you feel about Terence Newman returning punts? Yeah or Nay?

I haven't seen much discussion about this since the game but am I the only one who thought our punt return situation looked a hell of a lot better with TNew back there? Guy looked like he was going to get a touchdown. If you listened to his post-game comment, he told Brad & Babe he felt like both of them were going for TDs. Peerless doesn't look like a natural at the position. I feel incredibly nervous having our shutdown star corner returning punts but it's the best I've felt since Deion relinquished control of the duties.

What say you fellas about it?

The best we could hope for is that he would score a TD some game.

The worst is he would suffer a season-ending injury.

As much as I like seeing him back there, the reward does not seem worth the risk.

With only 6 games left, I like what BP has done,, by rotating the PR in situations. It changes the way the punt coverage unit has to defend the punt return and puts alot of pressure on thier outside guys to get there fast. I wouldn't want Tnew back there every punt, way to dangerous. But in certain situations, I like him back there.. esp when there is a short field to work with. I was jsut thinking earlier today how much he reminded me of Deon back there. If not for a block in the back and a lucky tackle,, Tnew would have set both punts he feilded in very good places for the Dallas O.

It's just that with punt returns there is a much stronger likelyhood of injury than with other positions.

It seemed like in that game TNew was in there in key situations when a good return would be especially useful and I think that is a good idea by Parcells.

Where is the middle ground? I think there are times that using Newman on punt returns would be of great advantage for the Cowboys. I like the way Bill used him when Det was forced to punt from their own endzone, Newman had a very good return but was called back because of a stupid push in the back.

Last time I looked, Glenn & Johnson aren't returning punts.

How smart do we look if our "shutdown corner" tears up his knee returning a punt for 3 yds ?

I wish he did it more often, but I guess I'll settle for times they are backed up. :)

I just wonder why Parcells finally decided to put him in. We've had several situations like that this year, and every time it was the regular returner back there. Has he just finally seen enough of Price to be convinced that he's not that good at it?

I agree. If not full-time, at least in critical situations. Looks so much better than anyone else we have, Crayton included.

I agree. I also don't think you can coach a game with concerns over injuries, if you have a chance to break a game wide open and Newman gives us that advantage then you put him out there.

I could see it if it was in a playoff game, the NFC Championship, or the Super Bowl, and the game was on the line or something.

But take Sunday for example, what if he did run one back?

We win 27-7 instead of 20-7, so what ?

If he gets hurt, it will seem pretty stupid.

I don't think you can coach being concerned over injuries they are playing to win the game not save a player from a could be injury. If Newman gets hurt in pass coverage he is still hurt. It is just part of football injuries will happen but I don't think you can try and protect players

I'd rather see him occasionally return punts when it's either needed (trying to make a comeback) or it's advantageous (opposing team is kicking from their endzone).

Sure, I wish Newman could be a full-time returner, but it's tough doing so when you're a starting CB.
