If it's your team wins the SB, you will have a lot of disappontment.
32 teams in a very competative NFL makes winning the SB a very special season.

After following the Cowboys for 39 years, I judge a great season by this one question :

Did they play up to and or exceed expectations ?

Based on this criteria, 2014 was a fantastic season.

Most projected another 8 and 8 season.

We went 12 and 4 , won the NFC East and won a playoff game.

I am very happy with our season and now have reason to hope for bigger and better things in the future.

After 9 wins they exceeded expectations, very successful season...

I agree with everything but the most predicted another 8-8 finish. I'd say less than 20% of the people on this board and 10% of the media picked 8-8 or better. Most had us between 3 and 7 wins.

This was a very successful season.

Next season I will consider nothing less than a Super Bowl appearance successful.

Very successful season, but very disappointing as well in terms of the way it ended. Nevertheless, I go into next season with much more hope and promise than I did entering this one.

The goal every year should be the NFCC. How realistic that is depends on the roster. But getting to the play-offs should make that goal attainable.

I do not subscribe to what happened last year dictates what should happen next year. So once this team established they could make the play-offs, an especially in lieu of having a 12-4 season, then the goals shift and the NFCC should be the demarcation line of success.

Because as Landry said, "Stay close to the top and pop through every few years."

A successful season should be judged on what the preseason goals were. Just guessing but 12 wins probably exceeded everyones preseason goal and not only making the playoffs but winning a playoff game probably did also.

I judge it by results vs talent and expectations.

The results of this season far exceeded the raw talent and the expectations of just about everyone.

To be a bounce or two away from playing Tom Brady for the Super Bowl (in my mind at least) is a fantastic achievement.

Next year, the bar will be set much higher...

Successful? No. Improvement? Yes. We got back to the dance. Now let's get back there & further, next season.

I believe we had a very successful season, especially after going 8-8 the last three seasons. Alot of people expected us to do even worse this season and the Boys proved them wrong, we even made the playoffs and won a playoff game, now for the 2015 season I want more. As long as the improvement continues there is no reason we cant make and win the Super Bowl next season

This.

I agree with Aikman. He only had 3 successful seasons.
All that other "successful season" talk belongs with lesser teams like browns, bengals, etc

Exceeding expectations is a successful season anything less than a Lombardi is disappointing tho.

I don't care about pre-season predictions or any of that.

I measure it objectively. Its a successful season because they went 12-4 and made the playoffs. Simple as that.

However, it was an unsuccessful and disappointing post-season because the team that went 12-4 and made the playoffs didn't show up.

I'd consider a successful making the playoffs and winning a playoff game, regardless of preseason expectations, but that's just me. You can't win it every year, but as long as you're continually knocking on the door you'll eventually break it open.

I only consider a successful season if it ends with a super bowl victory.
The goal is not second place.
