Lions GM came out and said Suh is thir top priority. Hes not going anywhere.
It's an example.

Suh will have to agree to a new contract to stay there so it's not in the Lions control. Due to his contract, they would have to pay him 26.7M to franchise him which is not realistic.

Lions GM came out and said Suh is thir top priority. Hes not going anywhere.

He said that they aren't adverse to using the franchise tag on Suh at $26.7 million. That was likely a tactic to let the agent know that the franchise tag (a huge bargaining chip for the team) could be used. Mayhew saying that and actually spending it are two different things. If they franchised Suh, I think they would have a full 1/2 of their salary cap wrapped up in just 3 players. I'm not so sure they'd do that. Maybe they will but the possibility that it is just bluster is there for sure.

I agree that it is more likely that Suh stays a Lion, the odds are that he will... however, it isn't a given that he will be back. If they don't reach an agreement on a long term contract (again which they likely will), then the choices will be to let him go to another team or pay the $26.7M, which isn't an easy pill to swallow.

Dallas needs pass rushers. But where Dallas will be drafting in round one all there is are tweeners, guys the size of Lawrence. And guys who are on par with Lawrence. Dallas doesnt need another RDE if they are going to go with Lawrence. And sure as hell dont need another DE the size of Lawrence. Am i the only one who thinks the best bet for the team is probably to look at FA? Do they just get these high motor types of guys in FA? Guys who hustle but arent superstars. Its clear Marinelli is not going to play the DL on high snap counts rather relying on a 1st unit and 2nd unit. Keeping the DL fresh.

RDE Mincey/Lawrence
LDE ?/Gardner/Boatright
3TECH Crawford/McClain/Coleman/Whaley
1TECH ?/Brent/Bishop/Okoye

How do the Cowboys fill in these 2 spots?

Not even going to worry about the 3TECH. Its fine.

Do the Cowboys switch McClain over to the 1TECH? The guy was awsome when on the field with Crawford. He was injured and we only got to see a few games where he was healthy. I wouldnt be mad to see he start over signing a high priced guy there. One guy i do like in FA would be Nick Fairley.

RDE i think is set. I think they will go with Mincey and Lawrence and let them battle it out. Dallas actually got decent production from that side of the DL. As a whole Dallas got 9 sacks from the both of them in the whole yr including playoffs. We saw a glimpse of what Lawrence could be. I think if he hits the weights and the filmroom he could start in 2015.

LDE is the problem IMO. No production at all this yr except for the last month that Spencer started to get his confidence. But unless he comes cheap, will he go with the money from another team? Hes going to be 31 on the 23rd. Its clear the team likes Spencer so does Make a move for a stud DE to play the strong side? Or draft a guy like Owamagbe Odighizuwa and sign Spencer and see what Garner has?

MY DL would look like:

RDE: Lawrence/Mincey/Odighizuwa
3TECH: Crawford/Coleman/Whaley
1TECH: McClain/Okoye/Bishop
LDE: JPP/Gardner

I like the draft and a speedy S in FA. JPP if under 5 but not likely. We didn;t rotate the way we think we did @ DE bc of Mincey/Selvie. Mincey is a great rotational DE @ but get real here. He is a huslte JAG that should be a rotational player/SDE. Crawford/Lawrence is our talent @ the DL.

the amount of turnovers this team got down the stretch when Marinelli went more man is amazing. They got 15 turnovers in the last 6 games. You add pressure from the front 4, you get alot more and sacks. We saw alot of coverage sacks late because this team went more man. So im not buying the whole multi yr thing

I am not as optimistic as you are. I think improvement is attainable but I think a dominant unit is a couple of years away. Fifteen turnovers in six games is fine, but turnovers have a funny way of coming in bunches. What really concerns me about this unit is not getting off the field against an efficient offense because they lack the horsepower. Heck, the 99 yard drive they gave up to Detroit shouldn't have happened anymore than some of those 3rd down and long conversions that were surrendered in the packers game. Maybe I am overly pessimistic about the talent level that is currently under contract but as of now I see the glass as half empty. With that being said, if Lawrence, Crawford and maybe Okoyi can emerge in training camp as the real deal I my develop a hint of optimism.

McClain showed alot playing next to crawford. We didnt see it as much because Dallas didnt have another 3tech so McClain could play more 1tech. And injury to mcclain. Twards the end of the yr mcclain was unblockable most of the time. And we heard that about him before the season started from coaches and what they saw of him.

I agree that McClain, when healthy, was productive paired alongside Crawford. I still think, however, Dallas could use a huge upgrade at the 1-technique: an immovable object who collapses the pocket when he is in the line-up.

I'd like to see McClain come back and play primarily on passing downs.

Right. That would be great to have for this defense. I know everyone wants a safety or a corner but honestly I don't want to see any part of that defense being worked on until we get at least 2 new pass rushers in here.

I'm not a fan of judging guys based on weight or height. I just need ball players. Elvis Dumervil is a ball player who can't really be judged on his size. And I know Dumervils don't just grow on trees but it does prove what happens when a guy who's too small in measurables but not small when he gets out on that field.

For every dumervil there are how many failures his size? Dont like those odds.

On the OL side we lucked out into premium players who coalesced quickly into a great unit.

On the defensive side I think we probably sign a second tier DE, invite Spencer back and look for a premium pick or two to be spent in the draft. As for DT, I am okay with going with what we have unless a good opportunity comes to get a quality 1-tech. Josh Brent didn't look like the same guy from 2012 but maybe he'll look better after a full offseason program and TC. All the rookies are pretty green but there is definitely some potential in Bishop, Coleman and Whaley. Maybe Boatright will do better at DT with a full offseason to work on his strength than he did at DE.

I think the key will be to find guys who fit well into Marinelli's scheme who may be mis-utilized elsewhere right now. I really wonder if Brandon Graham wouldn't be a really good DE in an aggressive scheme like we are running.

He got better right at the end of the season in all aspects of his game.

I don't remember seeing him getting pushed around on the strongside but I wasn't specifically looking for that either, so I could have missed it.

Which games did he play bad at SDE? Do you remember?

Look at the first few games he returned.

Marinelli seems to love him for some reason. The front office should probably just not re-sign him and then Marinelli would be forced to start somebody else.

Hayden held at the point of attack very well. He create piles when teams ran inside. IDK if he should make next yrs team but i wouldnt complain if he did over coleman or bishop.

Dallas lucked out now?

They drafted smith high
They draft Fredrick when everybody thought it was too high
They drafted martin because he was tops on their board.

Thats not called luck that called good drafting.

OO looks like a player but I hope they go in another direction because I have little to no chance of pronouncing and/or spelling his name correctly. That would be a huge stumbling block for me on Gameday. I guess if the coaches really like him I can refer to him by his jersey number.

You're right man. Can't argue against that. I sure don't want to find out with my 1st or 2nd round picks. But later on in the draft.....wouldn't be upset about it.

Murray probably wants to return to the Cowboys but that does not mean that it will happen.

there is a difference. its clear dallas isnt putting priority on Murray. They arent offering anything more then what they offered him before the season. And Jones has already said the money they are offering is not enough for what Murray wants. The lions are making Suh a priority. Big difference. Im not saying its a lock but if you think the situations are the same then i dont know what to tell you.
