Hayden held at the point of attack very well. He create piles when teams ran inside. IDK if he should make next yrs team but i wouldnt complain if he did over coleman or bishop.
You will find very few people that think Hayden held the point well. He does somes things well but he is easily pushed around. He rarely draws double teams and gets blown out when he does get doubled.

You're right man. Can't argue against that. I sure don't want to find out with my 1st or 2nd round picks. But later on in the draft.....wouldn't be upset about it.

Thats why i like O from ucla. He can play either DE spot and he's around a 3rd rounder.

Continued growth of Crawford, hopefully Lawrence makes the leap that Crawford made this year.

Heard coaches were excited about the kid out of Stanford. Picking @ 27 I'm not sure you'll find a DE who will step in and immediately ungrade the DL, unless you hit the jackpot.

The biggest mistake Jerry and crew have made this decade is Morris Claiborne. We'd probably be playing Sunday had we gone with Fletcher Cox or Poe(only 3/4 guy?)

Draft a couple linemen and sign a rusher is the best options.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Strahan was a third-round pick wasn't he. Haley came in the later rounds also. They can be found. We just have to have an eye for them.

Of the top ten in sacks the past two seasons approximately half were chosen outside of the first round.

With a coach like Marinelli, you have to trust him when it comes to the DL. He has no problem holding out people he thinks arent doing what he asks. All you have to do is look at the Melton situation. The guy was Marinellis guy but for whatever reason Marinelli started Crawford over him, and never looked back.

there is a difference. its clear dallas isnt putting priority on Murray. They arent offering anything more then what they offered him before the season. And Jones has already said the money they are offering is not enough for what Murray wants. The lions are making Suh a priority. Big difference. Im not saying its a lock but if you think the situations are the same then i dont know what to tell you.
No 2 player/team situations are exactly the same. The point is that it's not a slam dunk that he will stay with the Lions. Once agents get involved things normally get messy.

I would do this
RE-JPP/Lawrence/Late round PR specialist
3 Tech-Crawford/Melton/Okoye
1 Tech-Brent/McClain/Bishop
LE- High Draft pick/Mincey/Gardner

I didnt say it was a slam dunk, but i do think its alot more probably Suh stays in detroit or signs in NY. He is said to want the exposure of NY.

The reason was Melton not being 100% returning from injury.

Obviously Marinelli is not going to keep a player like Suh on the bench in favor of Hayden, but when it comes to young player with upside vs a veteran like Hayden, the coach will often have an emotional attachment to the veteran.

Agree with this too. The thing is there are really no prototype LDEs in this draft when Dallas will be drafting. Theyre all tweener type RDE who played RDE in college.

Defenses are different these days. You need your edge rushers to be more like hybrid linebackers because offenses get rid of the ball quickly and usually throw it outside the numbers. So teams are looking for DE's that can make a quick rush towards the QB, then get out of that and run towards the receiver and make the tackle. It's why this team drafted Lawrence, he fits that type of DE.

I think there's a lot of issues with the secondary that Marinelli worked to cover up and couldn't blitz as often as he would have liked to.

I don't even know if the Cowboys would be interested considering the cost and his personality issues.

Exactly. I think Fairley could be an option tho. Deep inside of me im hoping Melton comes back on a cheaper deal. I would really love seeing him and Crawford starting. Having a Core of Crawford/Melton/McClain/Okoye would so wonders.

Agreed.

I love his toughness and determination but his position needs to be upgraded.

And i think the reason was zone. Zone doesnt work in todays NFL unless u have a team like SEA. With a defense thats pretty much a probowl defense. Thats why we saw an increase in sacks from the last 4 games on because they played more man defense. Dallas had 14 sacks in the 6 games including playoffs. and 14 forced turnovers.

DL needs that are not on the roster:

1 starting DT
1 starting DE

Dallas gave up most of their runs to the outside, the inside gains were few in between. If there was a problem is was the run defense on the edge not the middle.

Dallas lucked out now?

They drafted smith high
They draft Fredrick when everybody thought it was too high
They drafted martin because he was tops on their board.

Thats not called luck that called good drafting.

It is good drafting but there is an element of luck there, too.

Are all scouts so bad as to have missed out on a Pro Bowl Center at the end of the first round. Heck many talked about him really being a 3rd round guy. Many thought we reached and he would be available in the mid-second round. The scouts who formed those opinions did it on estimations on how similar prospects have fared in the pros. There is a huge amount of projection involved.

The same was true of the other picks but maybe not as true for Martin. Smith had quite a few detractors.

If you want to look at a recent example look at the top guys from the 2013 draft. 3 Tackles off the board in the first 4 picks and not one of them is looking better than Parnell does right now. So yes, high ranked guys even in the top 10 do not always pan out and that is not really a mistake by their scouts. Our own scouts wanted Cooper and Warmack badly in the draft where we traded down for Frederick. We apparently badly wanted Shazier before he was picked ahead of us and forcing us to go with Martin.

There will always be luck involved in the draft. To have hit with 3 straight picks is very unusual and a good helping of luck was served on the side. Just be grateful that we got it because it is not a given we will have it the next time we are on the clock.
