Fairley seems lazy, Idk anything about him but that's kind of the perception... Marinelli like high typo high motor never quite guys

Fairley turned the corner this yr Lions org said all yr. The guy kept his weight down as asked. Stamina up. He was just hurt.

While I loved Fairley out of Auburn, his NFL career to date has been marginal at best due to his lazy, inconsistent play, to the point where he was benched to begin this season. That is a SERIOUS red-flag in my books and IMO, Fairley unfortunately SCREAMS Albert Haynesworth and there are plenty of similarities between the two, the most obvious being their FREAKISH ability. We all know how the Haynesworth signing ended up for ole' Danny Boy in DC and while I don't believe Fairley will end up being even half as bad as Fat Albert, I would still prefer to stay as far away from him as possible during free-agency. This guy might be the DEFINITION of a "WKG" or WRONG kinda guy and clearly wouldn't fit in this new WINNING culture Coach Red has built.

I'm pretty sure Melton isn't coming back.

Not at his current price. I wouldn't pick up the option and then try to resign him much cheaper. He will be 2nd year off an ACL and nobody is going to offer him big bucks after this season. I think Rod can get him close to his old self and he will be cheap.

That approach can be taken with any draft pick/

That's true.

There is an element of luck involved with any draft pick. To have that element turn right to the tune of 3 Pro Bowlers with 3 straight picks is ususual good fortune. We've even lucked out with injuries as none of them has had a significant one yet (i.e. missed multiple games or a season).

I think they are doing something right with scouting but we definitely had lady luck shine on us in the first round with the exception of Mo.

I think you do the following:

1. Sign a free agent pass rusher like JPP
2. Sign a free agent DT like Fairley
3. Resign Melton to a smaller contract separate from his option.
4. Draft a defensive end early.

That is all do-able and will help to create a much better pass rush from what was one of the league's worst. We should be able to get much better on defense next year.

It's been said multiple times, but I'd be all over Brandon Graham of the Eagles depending on the price.
