How far would you trade up for Johnny Manziel?

If he dropped to around 12 or 13, I'd definitely try and trade up -- of course, that depends on whether they actually have scouted him and believe he's a franchise QB. I love Tony, but by the time the team's good enough to be true contenders again, he'll be ready to ride into the sunset. So long as we didn't have to give up our 2nd, I'd be game.

Wouldn't trade up inthe first to get Manziel. I think he'll show flashes inthe NFL due to lack of game film but once DCs have enough film on the kid, his buzz will fizzle out like the rest of the running QBs eventually.

That is the issue with this draft, it Manziels falls out the top 10 ( past Minny at 8)he is amost a lock to fall to Dallas at 16.
So its more of would Dallas trade up into the top 10 to get him? No, and I really like the guy, but only at 16.If Manziel does fall to 16 and we skip over him i will have an issue with JJ.

I recall 3 times a similar issue like this happen. 1) the year ARod was drafted, we needed a qb and Bledsole was old. We had 2 first round picks, spent one on Ware and the second one on Spears. We should have drafted Arod with the second first. Im sure he was the bpa but we went towards need.
2) In 2007 we had a chance to draft Brady Quinn, we pass, traded out the pick to the Browns.I agree with this trade, we had a young Romo who played very solid.
3) Quincy Carter, word around town is the fact JJ was advise by his scouts to leave Quincy alone. JJ could not resist, also we had a huge need at qb without a first rounder that year. What was over look that year was texas native Drew Brees.Brees was quickly selected by the Chargers early in the first round. Im surprise JJ did attempt to trade up for this guy at the start of the second round or real late into the first.
Right now we are in the need for a replacement for Romo. If Romo takes a hit on his back this year it is hard to say what will happen. But i guess JJ will justify signing Weeden because they had a second round grade on him when he came out, so in JJ eyes that is the same as using a second rounder on a qb.

It really doesnt matter what i think but if Jerry has concerns about Romo's health then he should really consider all the QBs in the first rd,not just Manziel.

Johnny needs to have a GREAT pro day on Thursday, if its just ok, the media will all say he can not make it at the next level. If it is just ok, I believe he does fall to the Cowboys and Jones eyes will light up like a Christmas tree. Cowboys time on the clock will have fans in suspense, it would be crazy.

Let another GM make that bonehead move. We are one year away from needing to draft a QB anyway. And when the Cowboys make that move, They need to use a first round pick on a real NFL QB.

I don't agree that we are one year away from needing to draft a QB but I do agree with you on the bone head comment. Let somebody else bleed out on on the floor of the NYC Radio Music Hall. We've already spilled our share.

It seems more likely now than previously that Johnny Manziel could slide out of the top 5 draft picks. The reason is twofold. 1) The Raiders' strange trade for Matt Schaub. 2) Cleveland GM's announcement that he won't attend JM's Pro Day. (could be a smokescreen, but there you have it.) The Browns' GM apparently attended both Bridgewater and Bortles Pro Days.

So the draft could go something like:

Texans : Bortles
Rams: Matthews
Jags: Clowney
Browns: Bridgewater
Raiders: Mack
Atlanta: Robinson
Tampa: Watkins
Minnesota at 8 is the next likely qb team.

Would you consider a trade up to Atlanta or Tampa at 6 or 7 to take Manziel (or Bridgewater or Bortles). That would be about the same as the Claiborne trade. I think if JFB is top 3 or so on your draft board, don't you consider it?

I wouldn't

I really like Manziel, but will need the coaching to take advantage of his skills and mature as a pro. Garrett is most definitely not that kind of coach, he is far from the outside of the box kind of guy.

So if the quarterback who is, say, third on your draft board falls to 7, you're not thinking about making the trade up?

You're going to wait a few years until you lose your way there, just take what falls to you, or have to give up more value to make a bigger leap?

To me, if Manziel falls that far and the Cowboys like him, they need to consider making the jump.

Your assumption is that Manziel is a top 3 player.... Talent wise he isn't.. Hype wise he is. QB is not a strength of this class and there isn't a single 1st rnd worthy QB... including Manziel. (Sorry for all te elipses).

What we think does not matter. The real question is how far would Manziel have to fall before Jerruh would not be able to resist?

All the top running starters made it deep into the playoffs last year, except Griffin.

I would trade down as far away from him as humanly possible

no, and Manziel isn't worth the 16th pick to me, so I would never want to trade up for him, and I really wouldn't trade up for just about anyone unless someone like Mack fell to around 10 or so...THAT would get my draft juices flowing

Clowney won't fall to 10 but if he did you wouldn't want to take that shot?

Instead Mack?

I laugh at all those who turn their noses up at Manziel. the guy is a just a football player and has talent and leadership skills to smoke the field at the position of QB coming out this year. Dallas will never get a sniff at him and left to the devices of silly Cowboys fans like those who've posted how they'd pass if he was there at 16 - which he surely WON'T BE - this team can count on another decade of mediocrity. Criminy.
