I don't buy into that theory. Just because there might only be 22 legit first round value players, that doesn't automatically mean they will be the first 22 players taken.

There are 2nd round value players taken in the first round every year.

No problem..

..it depends on how you view those 20 or 22 players.

The bigger question is based on our needs, we maybe panning for fool's gold for players that are not worth what we are going to have to pay to sign and play them at #22 and #28.

That's all.

Sure, there maybe players that will fall to us at #22 and #28 that maybe were rated higher on our board or other boards.

And that would be fine if we were just drafting the Best Players Available (BPA) foir those selections.

But what happens if they are not anywhere near our positions of need, RB, CB and WR..? Supposed those guys are OL or LBers or DTs...?

Now what..?

Our Draft could be a crap shoot at that point.

I'm not sure I or the fans would want to be reading all off season going into TC that Dallas drafted guys in the 1st rd. that could be had in the 2nd or 3rd rd. and that we didn't get any players that would really answer any of our needs directly.

See my point..?

It all depends on our scouts and how the draft board plays out.

I know most teams dont number them 1 to 500 and just go from there. They will group players and put them into slots of where they expect them to go.

With trades this obviously will adjust guys as players at those positions move up or down or are drafted by other teams.

Our scouts may have different numbers of the true 1st round players.

The Draft is a crap shoot after pick #1. All the Players we may want may be drafted before our first pick shows up. Or about 4 players that fit into our slot may be there. But with this draft being deep on two position that we need, we may be in great shape by the time we hit TC.

I really see a run on RB before our 28th pick. But I am one who is hoping for a 2nd rounder or later RB on our team next year with Barber.

In the first I would love to see:

22. DRC or Devin Thomas or McKelvin
28. Thomas or Talib or Patrick Lee
2nd round. Rice or CJohnson or Doucet or Benedict
3rd. Gary Guyton or Steve Slaton or Kendall Langford
4th Josh Johnson or Antuwan Molden or DeMario Pressley or Breno Giacomini
5th round..and later...BPA small school athletes or big school part time players

Benedict in the second? That's way too early.

Bendict is a small school guy with an elite prep status entering Tennessee I believe and has the measureables, just needs some seasoning. Remember the guy we drafted from Sonoma State back in 1994?

We have plenty of projects as is, I'm hoping whoever we get in the 2nd will actually see the field before he turns 28.

I do not think that Jones ever really has bought into this running by committee and it still didn't work with Julius Jones and MBIII as it should have.

And I'm not sure he's sold that it will get us to a championship. I think if we don't have a RB that can dominate running the ball for us over weeks during the season and then into the playoffs, it's going to be difficult to win a championship. I just don't see MBIII being anymore than he's been.

Good points Redball.

I also think Garrett values the running game more than we think. Last year he made do with what pieces he had in place, but clearly his background suggests he wants to be able to run the ball and dictate to the defense what we do offensively. Barber is a joy to watch but he's clearly limited by his athletic ability.

I believe McFadden is in Jones' off-season plans.

Good Post........but Jerry J's MO is to take care of glareing needs prior to draft...........

We thought same thing last yr, before the Bigg Davis signing....and Hamlin Signing......

Jerry always lets the 1st wave of free agents ride past him.........

Again, Jerry past pattern is to get to point where he has options in the draft, and not be forced to move on a certain position......

gotta wait and see how the deck gets cut for him this yr

Good post.

To dismiss Ball totally is perhaps borderline stoopid.

In 1991 I watched a 12th round cornerback, not only start but do a commendable job. He was the 320th pick of the 1991 draft.

Am I saying that Ball is another Larry Brown?

No, but to assume the kid can't contribute is goofy.

And he became a Super Bowl MVP.

All indications seem to point to Ray Rice still being on the board come round two perhaps even three.

Jamal Charles will most certainly still be there come round three if not four or five.

Dallas therefore has inexpensive and low risk/high reward options to compliment Marion Barber who lest we forget was a fourth round draft pick himself.
